The text says it eloquently enough:
Whatever the decision of the Academy, I have no doubts about last year’s TRUE movie of the year. I haven’t been three times to see a movie in ages, let alone going as far as to buy a ticket to the London IMAX so that I could see it on Britain’s largest screen during my stay in the city. True, Avatar’s story may be clichéd, but in some very special cases “cliché” can mean “archetype”, and can speak across national and cultural borders. This is true about Star Wars, and, in my opinion, it’s true about Avatar. It makes me feel hopeful for humanity if the biggest box office hit should be a story spreading an environmental and anti-war message, even though I’m not blind to the fact that Avatar owes its success mostly to its stunning visuals (and boy are they jaw-dropppingly stunning)... but maybe the message will get through, somehow. I do think that this is the cinematic experience that will stay marked in people’s memories as the most impressive achievement of 2009.
