Dear David Nathaniel,
Did you know that your name means Beloved Gift of God? Nothing could be more fitting or perfect for your name as that. As surely as you were beloved by us, you are even more so by God. He put you on this earth for such a short time. But the impact you made was incredible. Especially considering you never drew a breath of air, nor opened your eyes to view this imperfect world. You touched our lives and our hearts and your memory will live with us forever. You taught us so many things about ourselves, about God’s love and mercy, and about the people in our life. I never knew that I could weather this kind of storm. In fact I prayed I would never face this kind of adversity. But you taught me that not only can I face it, but I can embrace it and be joyful that God chose us to carry you. I could not be the person I am today without carrying you those 15 beautiful weeks. Even though we mourn that you are no longer with us I do not wish that things had happened any differently. There is so much joy in my life right now and I am not sure that I would have learned and known the things I do without traveling this rough road. And knowing that you are whole and complete in heaven gives me such happiness. You never had to live in this harsh world and you never had to struggle with the sin of human nature. God sent you to us for a very specific reason and when that was fulfilled He eagerly called you home. I know that you are experiencing a joy that we here are on earth cannot fathom. And I know that when my work here on earth is complete you will be waiting to meet me once again. Knowing where you are gives me that much more reason to work hard at being who God wants me to be and to live in His word. You give me that added motivation. That is your gift from God to us. And that is why your name so perfectly suits you. We love you and rejoice that God used you to bless our lives. And we thank Him for carrying us through this storm. Without Him we are nothing. With Him we know we can truly face anything.
