A page for Mason's "Life With Cancer" album...I snuck my camera in one time when he was going in for surgery and took some photos of them putting him under. This particular time was a lumbar puncture, and was about his 10th "surgery".
Journaling: We’ve lost count of the number of surgeries you’ve been in for...but for every one, either Mommy or Daddy has been there while they put you to sleep. The first time I watched it, I freaked out a little bit because it was just like seeing you go into a seizure. You would be sitting up, talking to the nurses and doctors in the room, and they inject the white cream into your IVAD. Almost immediately your eyes would roll into the back of your head and you were asleep - usually someone had to catch you because you’d fall right over. The nurses would help us out of the room once you were asleep and an hour later we would meet you back up at the clinic, where they would take you after you’d woken up. You would have to stay lying down for at least an hour, and could only have light foods to eat at first, to be sure your tummy could handle it. We usually read you a book or two while we wait, and the nurses give you another check - your bloodpressure, temperature and blood oxygen level - before we are allowed to go.
