May of 2008, I had to make the hardest decision of my life. Things were crazy in our life and David was about to join the army. Chuck, Laura, David and I decided to let Nathaniel go live with them so that things could be stable and predictable for him. Nathaniel has always been very close with his dad, even after the divorce when i had custody of him. I know with all my heart that it was the right decision but every day I wish things could be different. That I wouldn't feel the need to explain to people that I have 3 kids, but 2 in the house. I have Nathan every other month for at least the weekend, and for 6 weeks during the summer. Still, it's not enough. Enough would be 24/7. I'll take what I can though. I value every moment we have together. It puts things into perspective. I bought this necklace to wear for him. It is a peridot, his birthstone. Hanging from it is a teardrop to honor all the teaers I have shed while missing him. This custom-made piece of jewelry hangs next to my heart so my baby boy is close to me. It reminds me to value every moment I have with him and even without him.
