I've been eager to scrap this story and picture from my son's experience with fencing camp this summer.
Journaling Reads: We were walking across the mall one evening and you said, ?Mom, Eric?s big brother at fencing camp has done some not very nice things.?
My mommy-concern-radar went into turbo mode, ?What sort of not-nice things??
?Well, Eric told me a secret. He whispered it in my ear and made me promise not to tell his big brother, Luke. But then, Luke told me he?d give me two brownies and a cookie if I told him. So, I sneaked a peak in his lunch box while he wasn?t looking, and, he was lying, Mom! He didn?t have two brownies and a cookie in there! He was trying to trick me.?
I stopped dead in my tracks and dropped to my knees right there in the middle of the mall and wrapped my arms around you, squeezed you tight and said, ?Kenneth, I am so proud of you. You kept a secret for Eric, and I can?t think of a better way to be a good friend.? You seemed a little taken aback by my earnst. Seeing you demonstrate such loyalty was an powerful moment for me. I hugged you again, then stood up and we continued on our way. After a moment I asked, ?So?if there had been two brownies and a cookie in Luke?s lunch box, would you have told Luke Eric?s secret??
?no.?
what else could you say?
