spending $$$ at the dr - I'd rather be spending it at SSD!

Tonight I just finished spending $50 (US$37.50) at the after hours dr for the same ear (left) that I went to see them on the 8th of May & 19th of May plus two trips last November. I think this entire month I have spent $190 (US$142.50) at the after hours dr and pharmacy

I came home from uni in excruciating pain (right out of nowhere, as I had been feeling good since last Mon/Tues) an hour earlier than planned since the dose of ibprofen hadn't worked in over an hour. I got some more ibprofen and antibiotics from the dr but they are clueless as to what is actually wrong with me so when I see my primary dr on Friday they are going to have a look at the results of the swab of my ear the dr took tonight and hopefully refer me on to an ENT since I have had diagnosis's of inner ear infection (x3), inflammation of the eustation tube, outer ear infection and absolutely nothing wrong except a little bit of redness in my ear (tonights diagnosis)

I hope this is the last trip for a very long time

Oh, no! Feel better soon. We've had a very sick spring here, too. Since February one of my kids had 2 ear infections, 2 bouts of strep, and a sinus infection. Another had 3 rounds of strep, and the 3rd had strep and the flu. DH and I have both been sick and on antibiotics during that time, too. We've never gotten hit this badly before.

I hope you are feeling better soon and there are no more trips to the doctor for a very long time!!!

Our emergency visits are nickel and diming us too!! We just got one hospital bill paid off and then had to take the baby to the ER a few weeks ago for a dislocated elbow!! It's never ending!!!

I hope you feel better soon Jen. You may want to consider that it is not the ear though. Perhaps you have a infection in your jaw that is causing pain in your ear or even a soft tissue infection. I had a soft tissue infection behind my ear last year and the pain was horrible. Sometimes when you keep treating the same thing and it doesn't improve, it is time to look at other causes. I am no means a doctor, but I have enough health issues I could play on on TV. :D

I'll mention that to my dr on Friday when I see him

I gotta agree with what Lorie said. Definitely time for them to look at what's really going on.

I hope you get answers Jennifer and feel better soon!!!

well the ear swab results came back today and I do have some sort of bacteria or infection in my ear so have been told to keep taking the antibiotics and ear drops til the end. I also got a referral to the public hospital for an ENT appointment since I have had 5 visits to the dr about the same ear since November last year.

Curious question: Have you in the past not taken the antibiotics til the end of the perscribed package? Because if you keep taking them for just three days or so, you are bound to make those infections worse over time and cultivate resistant strains.

I always take them right to the end
