so, i was just very rudely awakened from a decadent afternoon nap by a politician knocking on my door, trying to get me to vote for him.

which sparked my little pea brain to thinking....are you more likely to vote for someone because they make the effort to go door to door to try and get your vote?
 
Not really. I vote according to the issues not whether they're at my house.

I'd be peeved though to have such a nice nap interrupted.
 
Not if they knock on my door or call me - especially hate robo calls! However, for very local elections - like mayor or city councilmen, sending ONE mailing since I don't know them from Adam and we don't get a lot of information on them, is nice that they at least put out an effort to get their name out there... but at the end of the day (or ballot) it's the issues they stand for that will get my vote. :)
 
Possibly I would. I think it is good a politician would go to people's houses to speak to the people who they hope to represent and get a good feel for exactly what they are thinking and feeling and what needs the community has. Yes it is important to know where THEY stand on issues but I think it is equally important for them to understand their community and how they stand too. He/she is representing every person in their district so they should know the issues the people face first hand.
 
Yes, totally. I'm far more likely to vote for someone I've had an interaction with, though not through a phone call. If I totally didn't agree on the issues I wouldn't of course, but with a local politician running for local office, there usually aren't big issues involved.

It's really hard to get your name out there if you're a new politician, and walking door to door takes a lot of courage, because a lot of folks aren't very nice. It gives people the opportunity to ask questions and talk to them and remember, "Hey, that guy was really nice/knowledgable, etc."
 
I would very much appreciate it if a local candiate came to my door. Shows he cares about the people he represents and get his name out. I would really like it if the candiate was running for a non-partisan position and that way I could understand a bit more about them. I did go walking around for a candiate in high school though. It was a lot of fun and people were nice to us. Could have been cause I was a 17 year old girl, but who knows.
 
nope.

the phone calls i have been getting are unreal. i told a guy off b/c he asked me if one of the people running for governor had my vote. i went off for about 10 minutes on why she would stink at the position.

he said thank you. i hung up. i felt bad for the guy - but...
 
I don't answer the door unless I know who it is. We don't even had a peephole, so I have to look through the cracks in our blinds to see if I recognize the shoes. LOL
 
I think I would. If someone is making the effort to speak with me about the issues and their intentions in office, I would give them more consideration when casting my vote. But I don't do the phone thing. I barely answer the phone when it is someone I know.
 
nope. I really hate when they come to my door. In theory, i think its a great idea for them to do it, being out there in the community and all, but i hate being put on the spot. Im really not into the whole political scene and i hate trying to think up something to say to them. I just end up feeling stupid.
