Night Sky

Is the coolest phone app! Seriously! you hold it up to the sky and it will show you what the constellations are and where the planets are. soooo neat!

I got a similar app from Google (Sky Map) - I'm in love with it! I love being able to tell what I'm looking at. And down here in NM - the sky is always so clear and full of stars!! :D

where I live the sky is so clear. I used to lay outside in the summer with binoculars and look at the stars. I want to learn to do night photography to get pictures of the moon on the water (like a lake, river or the ocean). I will check for this app on my ipod

I have Star Chart (Android) which is basically the same thing. It is really cool and we especially love to use it when camping.

Just grabbed this, K! Now to find the time to go out and look at the sky, lol. And hopefully see something through the heavy Manila smog :p

I have Sky Map on my phone and love it! It's so fun to go outside before bed and look at the sky with it. My son was amazed when I pointed out Jupiter and Uranus to him. But man, it is awkward to point up and say "look Ben! It's urANUS!" LOL. Thankfully he's only five and has no idea why I giggle about it sometimes. :)

Umm... AWESOME! I am totally going to look up the android equivalent. We have a great view of the sky where we are and see more stars here than I ever remember seeing so something like that would be very cool!

I downloaded it last week so I can locate the ISS properly. I finally found out what a few of the brighter things in the sky are, and I found Mars as well :)

I just wish I has a telescope to go with it lol.

I'm not sure exactly which app we have, but we use one of those when we get the telescope out to look at the stars and planets. It's awesome to be able to identify what we're looking at!

What part of NM are you from Jen? I live in northern NM, btw. ;)

I need to check out that app, sounds neat!

We're waaaaay down south - in Deming, NM. We're here for work - otherwise you'd never catch me living here. Me & desert living just do NOT get along, lol. I have relatives in Farmington, NM. Where are you at?

I live 15 minutes north of Espanola, going towards Ojo Caliente. We didn't like living in Espanola and opted for the mountains/river area.

I know where Deming is at. I grew up from the age of 10 in T or C and then left to Phoenix AZ for college QUICK. There was nothing down there compared to up here. Now don't ask how I ended up back in NM cuz if I had my choice, I would've stayed in AZ despite the weather, which I don't miss the summers...just the Fall LOL!

My hubby and I both downloaded Star Chart. Its super cool and the kids and DH had a lot of fun looking for things. We discovered we can see Mars from our house without a telescope which really fascinated the kids. The silly app has been nothing but ads though. We woke up to several in the notification bar. Time to look for a paid app, I guess.

Google's Sky Map is for Android and is free with no ads.
I was just gonna say this - I haven't had one ad or popup or anything. And It does great for pointing out stars/planets/constellations (and probably more stuff I don't understand, lol)

Thanks for the info on that, ladies! We'll download that one and get rid of the other one then. DH has been talking about buying a telescope since we moved in here. Now he REALLY wants one.
