Weird computer issue

A few days ago, my computer started doing this odd thing, and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and has any advice. When I try to create a new folder, both on my hard drive or my EHD, it takes forevvverrrr. I right click and hit "New Folder," and then I get the "spinny circle" for what seems like an eternity before the folder actually appears. Then, when I try to rename it, the same thing happens. It's also taking an abnormally long time to copy and paste files into said new folders. It's more of a nuisance than a real problem, I guess, but I'd love to know if there's a way to keep this from happening.

I am no computer guru but what I would do is restart it. If that doesn't fix it then I would check what space is left on your computer. Maybe it is time for a clean out to allow more space for processing?????? Again, I know NOTHING about computers so take that with a grain of salt. LOL Sorry you computer is being a PITA. :(
 
Yup, mine gets that way so I take it as a sign to start deleting stuff (move any recent downloads to my EHD), running Clean Up! on it to get rid of temp files, etc, and maybe even de-fragging. But then, the laptop I'm on is like five years old :p
 
If restarting doesn't help and you have enough space left on your HD, it could be a RAM problem. I recently had some similar problems and i was able to fix it by removing some unneccesary programs from the startup menu. In Windows, a lot of programs auto-start when you start up your pc. If you don't use these programs at least several times a day, it's not necessary to have them start up with your pc, because this slows down your computer tremendously!

Also check what programs are running in the background, and how much memory they are using. Sometimes there is something running that doesn't need to be or a virus scan is running and it slows things down.
 
Have you defragged recently? I'd try that and also doing a cleaning of unneeded files using a program like ccleaner.

I have that problem when my hard drive is getting too full... according to a tech guy that worked on my computer when I was having fan issues, the computer needs at least 10% free hard drive space to be able to swap files around. ;)
 
It's possible you may have to de-frag, unless you have Windows 7 (it de-frags automatically). I asked my DH and he said you likely have a virus. Or a trojan running in the background. Do you have a recent version of Avast! Antivirus? Perhaps you need to run a new virus check.
 
also, have you dusted out your computer recently? When mine gets dusty it starts running slower to prevent over-heating.
 
My IT husband says it is most likely a fragmented/full hard drive. You should delete some things if you can and then run a full defrag of your drive. Let me know if that helps, if not PM me and he might be able to help you further.
 
This kind of thing started happening on my computer when the folder I was working with was just too big. So...like everyone else has said, you probably need to delete some stuff on your EHD. ;)
