I just got my new lens this morning!

i love the 50 mm! but boy is it loud when it is focusing, lol. i don't care. the pics are pretty good. i've been playing with it all morning. i just took a bunch of pics of Aidan playing the the playroom. he's probably sick of me now, lol. Chloe however, loves to pose for me so i got a couple of her too. I joined Amazon's free 30 day trial of Amazon Prime so i ordered it yesterday and got overnight shipping for $3.99! now i have to cancel that trial or i'll get charged $79. if you use Amazon a lot its a good deal, but i rarely do. anyway, thought i'd share my joy, lol. Shutterbug Challenges, here i come (again)!
 
How exciting! I love my 50mm too! But mine is actually pretty quiet when focusing though. Have fun! Oh and that Amazon Prime trial is a great deal! I did that back when I ordered my CF card and a couple of photography books. You can go into your account and tell it not to automatically bill you the $79 fee and they still let you use it for the remainder of your 30 days which is really cool. Then you don't have to remember to do it at the very end of your trial!
 
Do you have the more expensive 50mm? i know there is one that is about $350 or something (i think is a 50 1:4 or whatever). it has the USM which makes it quieter. i have the cheap $86 one, the ef 50mm 1:8. i can't afford the nicer lens, lol. but i'm just an amateur so i don't care lol.

I'm hoping to convince Jordan to let me get what I want, not what he wants. So I might have my new toys this weekend too!

I just have the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens like this from Amazon (not the more expensive 1.4 version). They have it for $86 right now. I got mine from B&H Photo though and I only paid $75 for it last August. Col the Nikon version of this lens will be more (maybe $100 or so) if you end up going with the D80 (isn't that the one your looking at?). But I've heard good things about the Nikon version too though so either way it is pretty much a must have lens!
 
Yea after I asked I realized you guys might have the Canon's. the Nikon one is about $130 right now everywhere I look.

I like the feel of the Nikon D80 in my hand better than the XTi. Jordan wants me to wait until the XSi hits the store, but they don't know when they'll be getting it in, and on dpreview.com they say that the hand grip is dang close to being the same as the XTi. So I'm hoping to convince him to just let me get what I want since I'm the one that'll be using it. We'll see, lol. He's being a stubborn donkey right now.
 
B&H has a Nikon 50mm for $110 plus s/h right now. I bought my camera & 2 lenses from there and was happy with their shipping & customer service. Also Andrea Burns shoots with a D80 so maybe showing him her photos will help your cause? She takes beautiful photos!
 
I'm throwing in the towel. I won't be getting a camera for at least a month if the XSi doesn't hit stores until the end of April. :(

What's the matter Col, he won't budge on waiting for the XSi?
 
No Jac, he won't budge. He's obsessed with Canon and wants one even though within 2 weeks he'll have forgotten about the dang thing.

I went home last night and cleaned to get the house ready for his family this weekend, and just repeated to myself over and over "the good things in life are worth waiting for", lol. So I'm over it. I'll wait until the XSi comes out so it appeases him. And who knows, maybe I will like it (even though they haven't changed the hand grips much from the XTi) and we'll get it and then the whole argument will be irrelevant. It's listed for about the same, if not slightly less than the D80, so that's a plus. I'll still be able to get it, and the 50mm lens. I'm tempted to buy a different flash too. We'll see, lol.
 
LOL... well I'm glad you made peace with it! And if it's any help, as a Cannon girl, I've been very happy with the Rebel. But I agree that a different flash may be worthwhile. Honestly, I hate the flash and use it only when it's so pitch black that I can't see anything. I would rather play with the other settings to grab more light because they flash is so strong. Maybe there are settings I should play with, I don't know, LOL!
