I know everyone who lives where it snows is saying WHY?!?!?! LOL But I have lived here in Orlando nearly my whole life and what little time we were not here we lived in New Mexico. So I really want this year to be the first year I see snow (well most likely beginning 2011). I want to go somewhere where it snows enough that I will get to experience everything...making snowmen, having snowball fights, snowangels...you know all that stuff you do as a kid. Going north from central Florida how far would I have to go to be guaranteed to be able to get to experience snow?

canada? lol..
I dunno. we've had some pretty mild winters the past few years. I mean, we'll GET a few decent snow storms.. b ut snow on the ground all winter long so you can come up when you want and make snow angels? not quite. lol
oh. yeh. and i'm in ri. :p

Hmm, not sure how far you would have to go, but we get plenty of snow here in Ohio! I'm so not ready for it yet, and our area hasn't had any. Ug, I think I'm just tired of driving around in it lol! It's so pretty, and we don't get tons like some other states - I think Ohio has a pretty good balance of all the seasons, we don't get too extreme weather.

I really do love winter, and snow, it's just a hassle now that I have kids I hate dragging them out in it. But, yep, we have it here if you wanna come up!! :D

My husband lived in New Jersey and Maryland before moving here to Florida so he has seen lots of snow and I have been here in orlando for 32 years now so me not so much. He does not get why I want to go so badly because he literally hates the cold and the snow and everything that goes along with it. For me its like telling someone oh disney isnt that big of a deal or you arent missing anything by not seeing the beach/ocean.

You can see somein the North Georgia Mountains..or maybe head to the carolinas..I'd say 9-10 hours north in the car will get ya some snow

I don't know where you would go going north from Florida but I'd head for somewhere that has ski resorts. Even if you don't ski, that's probably your best bet for finding areas that have fairly consistent snow.

I totally get wanting to see snow though. I lived in CA until I was 23 so it wasn't until we moved to CO that I ever really saw much snow. It's definitely something everyone should get a change to experience. :)

My mom moved from KS to AZ this year to AVOID the snow! She will be back for a month around Christmas ... but then heading right back to AZ!

I peeked at your thread to make sure you weren't from KS, MO, or AR (and were jinxing us) ... we have to travel to Ft. Smith December 9th through the 11th ... and I don't want to see ANY snow between now and then ... once I am back home...fine it can snow! lol

This is what it looked like on Thanksgiving day for us here in the high desert of Nevada:

Can I mention, that because of Paula's snow I now did additional last-minute Black Friday shopping? And because of Paula's siggie. And because I have some snow pictures when white hell broke loose before christmas last year. Which would go very well with that kit.

Paula, I'm blaming this entirely on you. Just so you know!

This is what my garden and street looked like yesterday, we've had lots more overnight but it's looking too cold to go and take more pictures today, perhaps after breakfast. Must have more than 9 inches now

I live near Andrea so have LOTS of snow too hehe! I do love snow, but my street gets cut off once it snows as there's 2 hills to get to it and the gritter men don't do them so it's awful!!

Why did I even read this thread? I live in Florida too and am sorta "ok" with no snow but I would love for my kids to enjoy it. What really kills me is all of the scrapbook kits that I can't buy because I have absolutely no pictures for them and probably never will. Paula your gorgeous layout above almost killed me.:crying: Everyone posted those really cool deep snow picks and I am feeling so jealous.

I would die to go to England (and Ireland!!) but umm I do not fly LOL. I want snow like in those pictures though. That is soooo pretty. And as I say that I know there are dozens asking WHY? Well hopefully the weather permits in late December/early January and we can make it up north to see some snow somewhere.

My husband was actually thinking about N. Carolina. It is a bonus because I wanted to go see the mountains and drive the Blue Ridge parkway.

We could go to Maryland or New Jersey since he has family up there but they would probably want to do other stuff so not sure Id get to do what I wanted if we went there.

Generally (knock on wood) in Kansas City we don't get that much snow ... most times it ALMOST covers the blades of grass ... we get about 1 or 2 snows that are 4-6 inches deep ... generally not much more than that. I'm not complaining. ;-)

LOL Glad I could be of assistance. ;)

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees to see snow anywhere. I've lived in Alaska and had winters where we weren't getting snow. Other years it dumped on us. I've even had friends go to Utah for Spring Vacation where they always go and ski, and there was no snow one year.

I agree with Lynette though...a ski resort somewhere might be your best bet. I would probably head up to Mammoth if I really wanted to see snow, but I'd still make sure there were some sysytems on the way that might bring us the fresh stuff.

I do wish sometimes that I lived where we might see snow a few times a year. I grew up with no snow for my first 19 years (California beach girl), and then moved up to Alaska for 7 years! Wow...what an eye opening experience! Then I was in Seattle for 11 years and saw snow a few times. Now that we're back in California, I have to drive to see it. I'll be in Seattle in early January...it could very likely snow when we're there. I hope not though...the whole city practically shuts down and I want to be able to do some things while I'm there.

Debra I lived in New Mexico up until I was 2 or 3. We moved here in 1979 and I am about 15 miles from the beach. So that is where I spent most of my free time growing up. So I know what you mean. All of my siblings have all seen snow. My dad was in the army so they moved alot before I was born. The closest we got to real snow was when we would get a freeze in the winter here and my dad was a landscaper so we had some trees that did not go through a freeze well. He would turn the sprinklers on and everything would be covered in icicles in the morning. That is actually really pretty

Well we have snow and lots of it! It's supposed to snow more today too. Perfect for hot tubbing!! Maybe that will be my picture for today.

Jessica, these are from last February when we got like 4-5 inches which is normally the max we get

But last January we got like 14 inches in like 2 days - really threw us for a loop. lol

so pretty!! I think I would miss Florida if I left but I do want to move somewhere where we have actual seasons. It is just mostly hot year round where I live. It starts to cool off for maybe two or three months then it is back to hot again.

lol - Our seasons are usually rain (maybe ice) - winter, rain (maybe tornadoes) - spring, hot hot hot -summer, and then rain (maybe tornadoes again) - fall.

yea we have six months of hurricane season so I guess that can be a season too. One that I could do without for the rest of my life LOL. Thankfully though the most damage we ever had from a hurricane was some trees down.

Jessica, its so funny you mentioned hurricane season. My 5 y.o. just asked me yesterday, "mommy, is hurricane season over yet?" and I replied "yes, honey, just about, but it'll be back again in 6 months." We are in South Florida and dh works for the power company so my kids are well versed on the topic. By the way, I would highly recommend driving to the Blue Ridge or Smokies in the winter. That area is beautiful. We are "thinking" about visiting Tennessee over Christmas break but I would like a "snow gurantee". We are going to our first Christmas party tonight and it looks like we'll all be wearing shorts and tshirts as ususal. Its 80 degrees right now.

Kaycee it just depends where you go in Tennessee. I'm in the Memphis area, and our snow isn't guaranteed, and as I said not till later in winter. Mostly this time of year we just get rain and the occassional ice. But you should be good going to the Smookies.

Oh gosh in 2004 it was so crazy I think my kids missed the whole first month or so of school because of the storms that year. They would go for a day or two or a week then miss a week...That was hte worst year I think for hurricanes for us. For awhile because my son was so young he got scared everytime it would storm because he thought that it was another hurricane coming through. I had to reassure him that sometimes it was just a rain storm that would pass by quickly and we wouldnt lose power for days and he would not miss days/weeks of school. I think the kids would not have minded it so much if the power did not go out everytime. It got really interesting in keeping them all entertained during that time especially with it being so miserably hot

Paula that page is Beautiful wow!!

I've lived in NJ & CT and we've always gotten snow this year not yet but 3 years past we got it before Thanksgiving ;)
It does look Beautiful the whole white setting all over. My kids love it but I have to say I hate the clean up and traveling in it
The thing I hate the most is the day after it snows it gets biter cold it feels like the wind is cutting into your face.. so not a good feeling

I don't miss hurricanes at all! Growing up in Texas was always a weather adventure.
Here's our house today. We had nothing on the ground as of bedtime last night. Jack Frost was way busy while we slept!
