Please help me settle this!

DH and I are having a disagreement about what "pastel" colors are. His side of the family is having a family photo taken and we were told to wear pastel colors. I won't tell you who thinks what...but my question is... are these pastel colors?

I'm gonna say no. I think of those as tropical colors. When I think pastels, I think very light shades (pinks, blues, purples, green, yellow, etc).
 
To me, those are not pastels. Pastels are like "baby" colors to me Light pink, baby blue, soft green, etc

Those look very tropical to me.

Phew...I am so glad to see these responses. Nothing I could say would convince my husband that he was wrong, so I told him to email his sister the same graphic and ask her if this is what she meant by "pastel"...I totally expected her to respond "NO!", but instead she responded "Those colors look great." WTH! So now my husband is gloating, thinks he is right and is planning on wearing a bright lime green shirt. So now I am hoping this thread will help me out :) Stay tuned.

Oh no! lol They do look great, but they aren't pastels! Can't wait to hear who wins this battle! lol :D
 
My first thought were that they were almost 'brights'. Nice colours, but no, not pastel.
 
I agree with everyone above. Those are not pastels.

Plus, I would love to see that photo. I can only imagine how many colors and shades of colors people will be wearing.
 
I don't think of those as pastels either. I'm with everyone else, I think of pastels as super light shades of those colors - soft pink, pale blue, yellow, lavender & light spring green.
 
OMG Lauren, those are adroable! And pastels. The ones originally posted definitely aren't. But hey, just don't care. My experience is that most men only work in a 8 colour mode. For them peach is something to eat, as is lime. :)
 
What Lauren and La posted are more what I think of when I think pastels. Definitely not that bright lime green. :blink:

I actually wish that was the color scheme and not the pastels. None of us have anything pastel in our closet and the few stores that I have shopped at, don't have anything remotely close to pastel.
 
This is why I fail hardcore at scrapping (and any sort of decorating) because that color pallet would have been close enough for me. lmao

I would ask his MOM. If she approves it, then let her be responsible for his bad choice. ; )
 
try Old Navy for pastel colors :) and I agree that hose are just a little bright to be pastel and lime green is totally gonna be bright!
 
I think we're all biased because we work with color on a regular basis, so we know without question those are not pastels.

Who has decided to wear pastels? That should be the person to contact to ask what they mean by pastel and if you're supergood to then email a swatch of the example colors out to everyone who's supposed to be in the picture so that they know Ms. Color Decider's definition of pastels = x.

But I'm a super photo nerd like that and I'd have a hard time hanging up a pic in my house of my fam if half the people look like Easter eggs and the other half look like they belong on a Nickelodeon kids' show. :)
