LOVE it!!! We actually have a buffet here that has 4 guys that make it right there where you can see...it's a pretty busy buffet. They have an amazing selection too. We went last night and I stuffed myself with sushi to avoid all the fried stuff on the other part of the buffet.

I will say though that I don't eat fish. I get the eel, shrimp, lobster, crab, etc. ones. No fish for me (I don't even like it fried). So you don't have to get fish the first time, try something else that it milder.

I could eat sushi every day of my life and be the happiest woman on earth!

Meeeee toooooo!

Heidi, I always tell people they can't say ewwwww... until they've tried it.... that's what I was told before I had my first experience! I quickly learned it wasn't so eww, lol.

Mari, there are totally vegan/vegetarian sushi rolls ;)

ETA: I guess I should read all the posts before posting, lol.

I love sushi. Its not all raw fish. The key is to start with the familiar & cooked and progress to the raw and unusual.

Start with egg sushi (cooked omlette on rice), shrimp tempura rolls, cucumber & avocado rolls, California rolls, a yaki hamachi roll (Cooked yellowtail), spicy scallops (cooked) and eel sushi (which is cooked).

Then try a tuna roll. Good tuna tastes like medium rare steak. Then a salmon roll or salmon sushi. Both have a nice texture and are not 'fishy'. Then move on to other fish and the combo rolls.

Stay away from the fish roe and sea urchin for awhile, they are an acquired taste

Actually, fish tastes much better raw... But if you don't feel like it, try vegetarian sushi, it will give you some idea about sushi as such (minus fish). :-)

ETA: I can see now I'm not the first one to suggest this. Well. :-)

Sushi does not mean raw fish. That's sashimi. There is a huge difference. I love sashimi too and will eat just the slices or the raw fish if it is extremely fresh and high grade.

There is something about the flavors of sushi with all the ingredients together, mixed with the soy sauce and the wasabi...a little pickled ginger....heaven on earth!

Amen. You've said it so much better than I did.

she should have a seperate option for I'VE TRIED IT and I don't like it and I HAVEN'T TRIED IT and I don't like it. Because I'm not sure it's fair to have a negative opinion on something that you've never tried...LMAO

Well, remember I am not a night owl and it was getting late so I didnt' think of that. ;)

I would try one with no raw fish (or any fish for that matter). Just the though of eating something raw turns my stomach. **shivers**

Sweetie - have to jump in here - not all sushi has fish, and those that have fish, it does not have to be raw!

Go try it, you might like it! Think tapas, asian style. :)

That's what I was going to say. I love sushi with cooked fish (california rolls are an example) or all veggies & rice. Not gonna do the raw fish thing. I eat a little seafood (like once or twice a month), but that's the only meat I eat. The idea of raw fish is enough to make me go 100% vegetarian.

I like Sushi...we really don't get out much to get it because I will only go to really nice places for sushi...and the closest place is a bit of a drive for us. When we do go, I mostly stick to the cooked ones however, I will say that high quality raw fish can be amazing. My husband took me to Blue Ginger (Ming Tsai's restaurant) one night. He ordered an AMAZING tuna tartar. It wasn't sushi, but it was this thinly sliced raw tuna carpaccio that had a creamy wasabi dressing. I was scared at first, but I decided that I wanted to at least try it. I couldn't believe how good it was. Not fishy at all!!! Just creamy and spicy and delicious. You really have to go to good place if you want to try raw fish for the first time. It makes all the difference in the world.

SUSHI?!? Where? WHERE? :p
I love not only Sushi, but almost any Japanese food like Yakisoba, Tempura...
I really like Sashimi too, but only Salmon and Tuna ones.

xoxo

I must say that raw fish tastes much finer that cooked fish. It has a buttery sweet taste, not fishy at all. Of course, it has to be sashimi-grade and fresh. :)

That's because good sushi is food perfection. 95% of the naysayers in this thread haven't even tried it. :)

I don't like fish in any way, shape, or form...they belong in a fishtank or the ocean LOL. And since I don't like soy sauce, and DH and I both don't like rice...the sushi question has never come up. Nowhere we eat out serves it. LOL

HAHAHAHAHA!!! We need to meet up for lunch still! Maybe we can have sushi.... :D

Traci, where do you guys normally go? There's a place on Alta Arden and Fulton that is FABULOUS! I think it's called Mana.

Shut UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! Dont give her MORE IDEAS!!!! :p My side remember!

Let's meet ... just no sushi!!

My DH loves sushi and we used to go for sushi all the time. I can take it or leave it -- definitely not my favorite food but I like some of it. I am probably unusual among sushi eaters that I don't like the rolls -- that nori seaweed wrap is way too fishy tasting for me. What I DO crave, though, is that combination of soy sauch and wasabi -- I will eat that just with rice, given the chance.
