4 Shared Virus Warning

Girls, I think 4 shared is still having a problem with rogue viruses riding it's files. Twice within the last week I've gotten the Anti-Virus Live Trojan. First time it took us about 12 hours to clean my PC once DH found all the info. This time, just a few minutes since we already knew what to do. In both cases, it seems to have come from 4shared since it was the only 'odd' place I'd been to.
 
Thanks for the heads up, Darcy. I haven't trusted 4 shared since that first virus fiasco of theirs.
 
Thanks for the heads up, I got it this week, too, and it's such a pain! :cursing: I'll be taking a pass on 4shared from now on!

I happened to get the virus from downloading a freebie template here this evening. But I use it to store my template files for my CT since my box.net account isn't large enough for them. I guess I need to just suck it up and pay up for a bigger account since I don't have a web site to store on. But I do almost all my hosting from box.net for freebies and the like.
 
Oh Darcy, that sucks! I paid money for my 4shared account to be able to hand out to CT etc (well, no CT at the moment) but also to hand out freebies. I have never had any problems with 4shared and nobody has told me they had. But I know that people are starting to avoid things that are stored at 4shared. Guess I have to abandon my account there :thumbdown:
 
Oh man, thats crappy! I hate when big places like that (that everyone uses) gets corrupted. All I need is to get a virus. My DH would KILL me.
 
I thought they would've cleaned it up by now!

I'm glad I have my own site with storage- now if I only knew how to link freebies directly without giving people the access to all my files! lol! :p
 
well that stinks, cuz i love using 4shared, just so easy and organized for me. i haven't found another i prefer. i've used box.net a few times, but still prefer the setup of 4shared, but obviously if it's not safe, then i'll have to start using something else. bah!

Darcy, thanks for letting us know. I think I just downloaded something this week but I can't remember what it was (and in the back of my mind I was thinking "it's 4shared, should I be doing this?").

So far I've run my VirusScan and nothing. *keeps fingers crossed*
 
I've got it on my computer and we can't figure out how to get rid of it!!!! I guess I'll be taking this to my dad or the Geek Squad in the morning. And I didn't download from 4shared but I did use Google Chrome to d/l a couple of kits from a few different sites so I'm not sure if that's where the problem came from or not. :(
 
I ended up w/ 2 icky things on my pc this weekend. Causing IE to open on it's own and go to some really strange sites. Needless to say it's with the IT guy today at DH's work.... At least i have the laptop still. What would I do w/o his IT guy...
 
Darcy, I could just KISS you!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for pm'ing me and posting the link to fix this nasty little bug. So far, it looks like it's gone!!! :wub:
