Have you backed up your files lately?

That's what I am doing this afternoon between the daily grind of
cleaning house. An external drive crashed on me earlier this year
and I lost all my scrapkits I had hoarded on it...so now I dilengently
burn my goodies to disc.
So if you haven't backed up anything recently, the start of the new year
is a great time to do so.:thumbup:
 
I always make a major backup at this time and clean things out. I'll be doing mine on saturday most likely :)

Just so you know hon, discs can go corrupt over time. So you might want to check on some of your older discs to make sure they don't need to be re-burned.
 
I use Mozy and back up my fav kits on CD - But with 500 Gigs - Its almost to much to back up on disk -

thankfully none of my discs are very old...I had just relied too heavily
on my EHD. I just know I was devasted when that happened. I was lucky it was only scrap stuff and not any photos.
 
this may sound like a silly question.

but how do i "back up" my files? i have them all on my external drive (and they're slowly going to be moved over to the big external drive that's shared by the whole house). but i don't know how i'd go about doing a backup.
 
Some people use an actual program that saves all your data in a second spot. A lot of people use an online backup system like Mozy, which copies everything to their servers.
I just "manually" do it by copying files to a second (and in some cases 3rd) spot.

A back up is simply a second copy of whatever you have. So instead of moving them from one external to another, you should leave them on the one, and copy them to the other so that you have 2 copies.
 
OH. okay. so just having multiple copies is okay? that i have. i have a copy on my laptop, a copy on my EHD, and a copy will go on the other EHD.
i didn't know what you guys meant by backup. cause i know i can do a "backup" on cd's with my laptop. but the last time i tried that, my laptop crashed twice. and it wasn't worth the effort.
 
Yup, that's all we mean :) Some people do an actual scheduled backup with a program, but it's all the same. Multiple copies.
 
I backed up and re-backed up (a 3rd copy) on Sunday. Both DH and I got EHD's for Christmas so we did some DVD backups as well. I have two computers (my PC I use for work only, and my laptop that I use for work and scrapping) and had quite a bit to do, but I feel so much better now.
 
Two external hard drives

I just purchased two external hard drives to back up all my pictures and scrap goodies. Not only will it give me some peace of mind, but it will free up lots of space on my laptop.

I had 2 external hard drives fail within days of each other ... so don't rely on it for your piece of mind ... make some disks too! ...that is what the guys that restored most of my data (at a tune of $700) advised me to ALWAYS do.
