Does anyone have time to read this month? LOL

I'm gearing up for my days off after next week and am looking for some good reads! I've ordered all of James Pattersons newest, read all of Jodi Picoult's books...

I love thriller/murder mystery books, but am open to all kinds of suggestions (maybe not romance so much though) :)

P.S ~ Has anyone else here read Stephanie Meyer's "The Host"??
I am trying desperately to get into it, but it confuses me. LOL

I've been on a food reading kick lately, so just finished Barbara Kingsolver's Animals, Vegetables, Miracle book, and have moved on to Plenty along with the Crisis Preparedness Handbook and Square Foot Gardening. Not light reads...sure 'nuff LOL But we're moving towards sustainable, local and home grown foods at our place, so I've been reading up on motivational and educational stuff to get us ready. I read My Life in France by Julia Child before this batch and liked it a lot.

That's on top of Cricket in Times Square, Percy Jackson and other reading and preeading I'm doing right now for the boys. Not trying to say that in a bragging way, but these days, I find it hard to make time for fun reading just for me...and I really miss it. Though, I think I need to get another Jodi book to put on my MP3 player to listen to while I work out..that's about the only good me time I get!
 
I'm reading the new Stephen King, Under the Dome. So far so good... only about 100 or so pages in. (There's like 1000) :blink:
 
I love Patterson and Piccoult. I also read the Dexter books (the first two at least) and love the Showtime Series (but serial killers are totally up my alley - hee hee).

I just finished reading The Lovely Bones (the movie comes out soon), which I thought was really great. Another recent book I read that I really liked was "Blue Zone" by Andrew Grossman (he's co-authored a few books with Patterson).

IMO, the books are so much better than the series. I can't stomach the series at all, but I love the books! I'm on the hold list at the library for the next book in the series which isn't even due out until next year. :thumbup:

It is the second in the Meg series. It's about a really old shark - think Jaws on steroids. Easy read & something different for me. For some reason, I was captivated...who knew.

I also was reading Wild Things - http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Wild-Things/Dave-Eggers/e/9781934781616/?itm=1&USRI=wild+things. The book Where The Wild Things Are - but grown up. It's what the Movie is based off of. Good book. Easy read, but it was due back Saturday.

Kinda hard to get into...not as interesting as the TV show I find. I saw the show first though, so maybe that's why.

I read The Host and LOVED it! Took a bit to get into at the beginning, but it's such a large book there was plenty left over to fall in love with! I would LOVE to see this turned into a movie!

I agree - I saw the show first, and loved it and then started reading...and since they are so different, I find the books a little harder to get into.

If you like murder mystery, you should try anything by Jo Nesbo about Harry Hole (yep, silly name in English), I'm reading his newest one now, which probably isn't translated to English yet, but some of the earlier ones are:

Another series I really like is the Wallander books by Henning Mankell:

Also (last one, I promise), the Inspector Sejer mysteries by Karin Fossum are really good, they have less action though, more psycological thrillers:

I have loved everything I've read by Francine Rivers. She is a Christian writer, so her books are bent that way, but I just cannot describe to you how incredibly good they are. I started with Redeeming Love; and I'm now on the last of the three books in her Mark of the Lion series. I'm just telling you, they are amazing!
 
I'm going to start The Hunger Games. I have heard they are great, but I don't know! I need to try Jodi Picoult.

Arctic Drift by Clive & Dirk Cussler (more action/thriller but I enjoy his books)
 
I just got done reading these on my ikindle:

1. Sarah's Key which was an awesome book if you like books that deal with the holocaust.
2. The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf
3. 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher - a book my daughter wanted to read and since it dealt with teen suicide I wanted to check it out - a very intriguing story that shows the power of words and actions can have on someone.
I also read the Lovely Bones - awesome book and interested to see how the movie goes with this.

And last night started reading - Say You're One of Them which looked interesting.
 
I am reading The Dead Man by Joel Goldman. Its pretty good thus far, about half way through. I am terrible about remembering titles and authors after I read them. But I read The Lovely Bones recently and that was good, too.
 
You should stick with The Host - it took a while to get into, but then I loved it.

For thriller/mystery, I really like Harlan Coben. Karin Slaughter is good too, but pretty dark.

I've currently got the latest Diana Gabaldon book ready to read, and just finished up Sophie Kinsella's Twenties Girl. I also just read Sarah Dessen's Along for a Ride, which was good.

our library has an awesome mail service & i just "checked out/ordered" Reedeming love. I've never read FR books but've heard they're great. I am reading a karen kingsbury book "Ever After"...i've read almost all her stuff. she is a christian author also and I am always so touched by her stories!!!
 
Ack. I'm thinking about rereading the Twilight series.... I also ordered Wicked for myself, but ended up wrapping it to give to my daughter because I didn't have enough gifts for her. Maybe she'll let me read it.

Oh yes! I have to recommend The Hunger Games and the sequel. They were written for teens, but really good books. I devoured them.
 
I am reading Handle with Care by Jodi Piccoult. I read My Sister's Keeper a few months ago and loved it, I like her style of writing.

I tried reading The Host and could read past a few pages. Maybe once I'm done I will try reading it again.

One book I really liked was The Choice by Nicholas Sparks.
 
Jodi Piccoult is by far my favorite author!

I just checked out Dear John by Nicholas Sparks and Any Minute by Joyce Meyer and Deborah Bedford.

Im into the 'tug at your heart strings' books! Not really wishy washy romance tho.
 
I was just complaining to Rocky that it's been awhile since I've really gotten into a GREAT book. I've read a couple of stinkers lately and I've been sooo busy with stuff around here that it's been a bad reading season for me.

Right now I'm a lil more than half way through Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - it's just ok for me so far. I feel like I SHOULD finish it, but I dont know if I will.

I recently read the Ruins - which was sorta really well written lame horror. Killer vines? Really?

Today I started reading The Last Oracle from James Rollins (one of my favorite authors ever) - and just 2-3 pages in I'm already way more excited about it than I have been in awhile.

I think I need to mix it up a bit more between more bestselling lit - like The Help or Extremely Loud or Sarah's Key and fast paced beach reads like stuff from James Rollins, Karin Slaughter & stuff from the YA section. Keeps it more interesting I think.

No, I haven't seen those yet, but I've been meaning to. They have made a Swedish version of it too, and I've seen some of those, they are really good:)
 
I just finished 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy, very good but waaaaaay depressing (I wanted to read it before seeing the movie, which still isn't playing here). I like to read a lot of non-fiction, but I get my books from the trade-in paperback store, so I'm reading them well after they were released! Recent favorites were:

1. Beautiful Boy
2. Skeletons on the Zahara: A True Story of Survival.

Right now I'm reeading an oldie, but a goodie, Belles on Their Toes and the nighttime read aloud for the kids is Half Magic which I can't recommend highly enough!

Those Scandinavian mysteries sound good, going to try and track some down!
 
two of my favorite authors are Jodi Piccoult and Nicholas Sparks. I find that either of those authors usually produce some good books.
