If so, I'd love to chat about it so far - I'm about half way through and I need encouragement to keep going : )

How do you like it so far?

Hummm - well the writing is good and the subject is interesting. My issue is that the main character is 9, and I have a 9 year old who wouldn't do or say even 1/4 of what I'm supposed to believe this boy is doing and saying - so I'm having problems suspending my need for some sense of reality in order to get emotionally invested in the story.

Here are a couple of examples that are irksome to me...

Boy 9 - walks and takes cabs all over New York ALONE to visit every person/stranger he can find with the last name "Black". Who lets their 9 year old go anywhere alone much less all over freakin' New York City?

This boy writes letters to all different types of people including Stephen Hawking, Ringo Starr, knows who Mohammed Atta is, etc. What 9 year old really knows THAT many "intellectual" types of personalities - I'm impressed that my kids realize that Hannah Montana is actually a character played by actress/singer Miley Cyrus - Stephen Hawking... really?

So anyhow, as I am reading it's become more an exercise in eye rolling for me - so I need some encouragement that the payoff is good or something. The other thing is that people say they cried and cried throughout this book and I havent wanted to cry once (and I am the crying type) - so have I not gotten to that part yet or is this book just not doing it for me? LOL.

Anyhow... there ya go : )

Hmmm the storyline sounded interesting but that does seem kinda odd. I kinda thought the boy would be older by the book description.
