We made a big decision today...

we've decided to send DS to a private Christian school when he starts Kindergarten next fall. It's something we've prayed about a lot..it's been weighing on me GREATLY b/c it is a lot of money, but we finally just laid out the pros and cons and the pros greatly outweigh the cost. We visited the school and they have nine students this year in K. NINE! I mean..how ideal is that...the teacher was wonderful, the headmaster is retired Army Guard which I think is what finally sold DH lol. But it's a super small school..literally 2 minutes from our house. I just feel so relieved that we finally made this decision.
 
that's awesome, I'm so thankful my parents chose private Christian school for my jr. high years... it was tough for them financially but it was really great being in such a small class and getting the help I needed in my hard subjects like social studies.
 
Two of our grandchildren go to a Christian school. Next year Cherish will only have her and another one in 8th grade. The only bad thing is that the school only goes to the 8th grade. But I know that they never not get enough attention from the teachers
 
I just know it's the right decision for us. The public school here is great too but it's HUGE..like there are 9 kindergarten classes averaging 25-30 per class. I grew up in a small rural school, so I know the benefits of that. Also other than Sunday school, this will be DS's first experience in this type of setting..so I was really anxious about that as well..not that I don't know it wouldn't be fine, but you know...he's my baby lol.
 
That's great Nikki! I taught pre-k and k in a private Christian school for years...do you know what curriculum they use? (the teacher in me is nosy LOL)
 
It sounds like you are at peace about the decision which I feel is always a great indicator that it is the right one for your family. A small class size will be very nice.

No..she was busy today b/c it was just kind of an impromptu visit on our part but said we would go over all that during registration.
 
my oldest goes and it is the best decision we have ever made. she is thriving and growing and the program there is fantastic. :) i cannot say enough about the staff, the principal, the other students there, the teachers... i just love jilly's school.

yay to you! finding a school that you know just FITS is such a blessing.

I wish I could do it for mine but I am lucky that she does go
to a very small school where the teachers do care for the most part.
And small is that her whole grade has 27 students. The downside is that
they kept her grade as one whole class instead of splitting it into two of them to give a chance for more teacher time. But..look at me ramble...
I am truly happy and feel that God will continue to bless your family with
the decision you have made.
 
That's so great Nikki! I'm sure you'll be really pleased with that decision.

We considered private for our kids, but instead got Wes into a charter school here. While it's not that small, it's very much like a private school in the teacher attention, and standards and expectations. We are extremely happy with it and will be excited for Claire to start next year as well.
 
Congrats on making your decision!

We have really great public schools here, so that's not something I even have to think about.
 
That is great. All four of our children are in private school, and it is a sacrifice, but our kids love it and we are thankful they are in such a great environment.

Congrats on the decision Nikki...My son started kindergarten at a Christian school this year...I absolutely love it...there are 12 students in his class and the teacher is awesome...He comes home and tells me stories about Jesus and God and I 'm just amazed at how much he learns...
 
I'm glad you found something you are comfortable with! Originally before my oldest started school we considered the school at our church...but with 3 kids...I would have had to go back to work full time and not even sure I would have made enough to pay for it...they are pretty expensive here. ...so we weren't able to do it...
 
thats great! i think if you can get over the cost and think of how much better off he'll be then its well worth it.

i don't consider myself really any religion so i have no idea where i'd send my kids if i chose to do that, lol. I'm not an atheist, we just don't attend church. but i hear those schools are way better. i can't get over how big you said the public school is! i went to a rural school too; my graduating class had seventy kids. Chloe's school is somewhat rural, they had 2 kindergarten classes and this year there are i think 2 1st grades.

yeah sometimes i calculate how much i'm spending :blink: but the public school system isn't the best...like nikki our area has about 30 students per class...that's just crazy...
 
wow 9 kids.. that's amazing! sounds like it will be fantastic :] I went to a catholic HS... the education we received there far exceeds what we would have been offered at pub school.. :]
 
Camden started kindergarten at a private Christian school this year, and we love it and wouldn't have it any other way. It's definitely worth the sacrifice financially!
 
My DD Piper starts kindergarten next year, too. We've had her in a parents day out program at our church for 4 years, and she loves it. But the elementary school in our neighborhood is rated Exemplary - and its so close to home that we're definitely sticking with the public school!

But congrats on making such a HUGE decision! I'm sure it will be a wonderful experience for Avery!
 
Our son goes to a private Catholic preschool, and will attend K there next year. It's actually a K-12 school, and we plan on sending all of our kids there. They are each only a year apart in age, so financially it is going to be tough - but, like you, the benefits far outweigh the cost.
