looking for a good cuppie frosting recipe..

lauren grier

you're like stars
let me preface with the fact that I am clueless...
I don't know what would be good, or gross.. or whatever.
I don't like chocolate, that's important LOL.. I want to try to make my own though because store bought frosting is gross .. gag. blah.

I started browsing recipes but I have no idea what is what, what would be good etc etc. So I want your own personal experience :p

ps I don't like pumpkin flavoured things either :p

Okayyy... found it!

Here's the recipe! I commented on the post with some tips (if you care :p ) based on the few times that I've made it: The BEST Cupcake Filling & Frosting

I seriously haven't touched any of my other frosting recipes since I found this one. It is light, not greasy or heavy... delish! I could seriously eat the whole batch with a spoon - and it's SOOO good flavored (I've made lemon frosting for lemon cupcakes and mint frosting on chocolate cupcakes). Be sure the butter is TOTALLY room temp before starting AND do not refrigerate - store in air tight container at room temp.

Here are a couple of pics I took of some July 4th cuppies I made with this frosting. (It's also YUMMMMY for a cupcake filling too).

lol I'm slightly scared.. is it easier to do than it sounds? When it comes to whipping things to perfection, I tend to fail ^_^ I def couldn't use that recipe for ce.. but it's not for him :p haha..

LOL! It really isn't very hard. The "hardest" part is cooking the flour mixture... but it just needs to be the consistency of pudding, and then let it cool. And you have to mix it a pretty long time, but it turns out super yummy. I just followed the directions, and it turned out good.

Let us know what you end up with! :p

I have a frosting recipe just like this one that has been in our family for a long time! my grandmother got it from a bakery in Pittsburgh about 40 years ago. It's almost identical to this one but it calls for shortening instead of butter. It's absolutely DELICIOUS!!

I'm interested to try this butter version - but the shortening one definitely isn't as temperamental as this one sounds! Next weekend I'm making my DD's 5th b-day cake so I'll give this one a try then!

thanks for sharing!!

I love buttercream frosting. It depends on which you prefer though. Like I HATE whipped frosting. Tastes like a slimy greasy glob of sugar to me...yuck. Here is what I use:

3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 - 2 tablespoons milk

1- Mix powdered sugar and butter in medium bowl with spoon or with electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the milk.

2- Gradually beat in just enough remaining milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable. If frosting is too thick, beat in more milk, a few drops at a time. If frosting becomes too thin, beat in a small amount of powdered sugar.

**Generously frosts a 13 x 9-inch cake, or fills and frosts an 8- or 9-inch two-layer cake.**
