My DH and I are polar opposites. He is a law prof and loves to marshall arguments and data and use them to talk (or argue) politics. I have had to ban all political discussions between my DH and my parents to keep the peace, since they have diametrically opposed politicial views.

I, on the other hand, tend to cringe when people start discussing politics. I guess I'm one of those "can't we all just get along?" kinda people.

How about you?
 
I am more like you...I just don't like the debate. Much prefer the conversation to stay pretty light. :D :D :D I am usually in the minority too so it's just not fun for me, lmbo!
 
most issues I can talk about but things like death penalty, abortion and crime and punsihment I get really heated and annoyed easily so I tend to stay away from those topics
 
I don't follow politics close enough to feel that I can talk with any authority... also our families are very divided and it can get pretty tense during Thanksgiving... so when it comes to talk about it in the family... keeping mum is the best theory to follow....
 
I hate politics in general, much less talk about it. I do everything I can to stay out of conversations that have to deal with politics.
 
I like talking about politics but not debating about politics. There are people in my life I can have an interesting and rational discussion with and I enjoy talking about cash for clunkers or war in afghanistan or gun control or health care with them. I can see both side of most issues so we can have lively conversations whether we agree or disagree

Then there are people in my life who have made up their minds about everything and are almost evangelical about converting you to their opinion. If you don't agree with them it's because you are stupid, misguided and/or can't think for yourself because all intelligent, right thinking people have come to the same conclusions they have. I don't talk about much of anything with those people because everything is a loaded question, including "Oh I like this dip. What's in it?" which leads to a ranting monologue about the evils of modern agribusiness & how we all ought to churn our own butter from the milk of the cows that we raise.
 
Jordan and I have VERY different views when it comes to politics. Thus, we don't discuss it. Since I don't read the newspaper, or online sites or anything, I tend to avoid most political discussions. But I do enjoy them online where I can see differing views and look things up and inform myself.

A few weeks ago I actually had a very civil conversation with Jordan and 2 of his friends regarding abortion. But I think that's mostly because all 3 of them agreed that while they do have an opinion, they (as men) almost shouldn't because it's not their body that has to be considered and such. At least they realized that much, lol. It made the conversation much easier to tolerate.

Umm yeah, pretty much this.

To add to that, I am a fairly liberal thinker in a family of fairly non-liberal thinkers. It's just easier to stay away from politics altogether. lol
 
I like discussing my opinion with my hubby because we share the same opnion. :) I don't like discussing politics with our BFFs since they are affiliates with the other party. I am pretty set in my political views, too. :)
 
I have had a informal personal policy over recent months to avoid news related politics - its just so depressing most of the time!

I checked the 'other' option - I actively avoid starting such conversations, but I have a habbit of being sucked into discussions, 'cos I usually disagree with whomever started it in the first place, and just can't walk away :p
 
No, I tend to avoid coversations about politics because my mother runs political campaigns and is very opinionated! My hubby doesn't really talk about politics since he is very conservative in his views.
 
I will discuss with my husband and my teenage son, but I don't enjoy talking about it with anyone else. Our family tends to feel the same way on issues, but we like to talk it out and there is enough difference on our personal perspective that it is interesting without being combative in any way.
 
I hate discussing politics. I do enjoy talking about them at times with my husband. He's extremely well informed and we pretty much share the same beliefs.
 
I like talking about politics, whether or not we agree with each other. I've learned a lot of things about my own point of view from other people's points of view.
 
I avoid confrontation at all cost -- I don't particularly like this characteristic of myself, but that's the way I've always been. Since the topic of politics often becomes heated, it's just one of those things I prefer not to talk about. Most in my family and friends have relatively the same views on most issues, so it's not always bad. I'm just not good at debating stuff like that and don't like to do it.
 
I guess I should say that I don't mind discussing with others if the discussion can remain civil. A couple of former coworkers really soured me on the discussion of politics. If you don't believe what they do, then you're an idiot. My stepdad is the same way. I tend to shy away from those types of discussions, because really, they're not discussions. It's them berating others for having a difference in opinion.
 
I picked other because I am not very aggressive and lack self-confidence pretty bad, so I often won't discuss politics, but I have a BS in Political Science and when I am feeling up to, I really enjoy it.
