Upgrade to CS4?

Just got an offer from Adobe to jump up to CS4 from Elements 6 for $299. It expires 09.15.09.

So now I get to go over my list of why and why not to do this, because, hey, $299. Even if that's less, it's $299.

Help me out? other former Elements users that made the jump, are you Really Happy? is there some secret news out there that there will be a newer CS5 or something that will make me regret this shortly after if I do upgrade?

thanks!

i have elements and wonder about this too. i'm fine with elements, but in know cs does more. but do i need it? lol

Nettie, if you feel like you're going to want more flexibility with photo editing, then it may be worth it. There are some actions that are not compatible with PSE and there are lots of other options that PS offers. I would consider downloading a trial of CS4 to see what you think. I haven't used PSE, so I can't make a valid comparison, but I know lots of PSE users that have beautiful pages and editing (such as yourself) :) Good luck with your decision!

I'm trying to make the same decision especially while I am still a student and can get CS4 for $230 instead of $1250. I'm quite happy with PSE6 but am trying to convince myself that this offer would be too good to miss out on

I took advantage of that offer back in the spring and don't regret it a bit. I upgraded from PSE 6 also. The main things that I like more than Elements are being able to do text paths, using and installing actions is sooo much easier and you're not as limited with action choices as you are in Elements. Oh, and did I mention Adobe Camera RAW???? That is my new favorite thing since taking Jessica Sprague's editing class. It has improved my photos immensely and you can edit jpegs in it, not just RAW photos. What did I miss about Elements when I upgraded? The photo bin. *sigh* But I got over that pretty quickly when I found all the other fun stuff to play with. :D

There will be a CS5 out next year but I don't think that you will really need that version. The offer you have is really nice. The only thing you have to think about is, that with PSE you can do basic things, Photoshop does a lot and more! Personally I prefer working with Photoshop instead of PSE but I cannot tell you what you should do. I would say, if you have the $299 to spare for the CS4, do it and if you don't have the money, don't. It is not the case that you really need Photoshop.

I upgraded from CS2 to CS4 for the same price and I love it! There is so much you can do with the CS versions compared to the PSE version. I agree with the reasons give above :)
