So...can I really delete these?

Since I finished my 2008 photo album, I'm burning all the 2008 pictures and finished layouts to disc. I'm also going to resave them to my EHD.

Can I really safely just "delete" them all from my laptop after I've done this?

It just seems so wrong.

I wouldn't because saving in multiple locations is always a good idea. You never know what could happen. If you have the room to keep them I would defenitely keep them where they are (as well as burn to DVD and the EHD)

I would burn 2 discs if I were you! lol! I'm afraid to delete all my photos & layouts!!!! :p

I have all the photos & layouts (even scanned paper-pages) on my computer still! But I have a lot of space on my computer- so it's not a big deal to keep them on here.

I guess if you're running out of room on your computer or want to free up some space then you should, if you feel like you can trust your disc(s) & EHD. (I personally don't have or trust an EHD since many of my customers need their downloads reset all the time due to EHD crashes, but that's just me!)

I only have a laptop now and it just seems that I'm filling it up with so many pictures and scrapbook stuff that take up so much space. I've also been looking into one of the online backup sites. But...if you back up to a place like that and then remove it from your HD, then on the next back up to the offsite will it be written over and gone from there or will it always be saved at the offsite?

I save mine to disc, EHD and an online site (Fotki.com) Once I print them I delete them off my hard drive if I HAVE to, but not until then, just in case.

I have a purchased account to flickr, and I can upload full sized jpegs there...as many as I want. I also have them on DVD's. You can upload them to Shutterfly there and keep them there. I'm not sure for how long.

I don't have many photos on my computer, DH has most of them on his. They are backed up to his EHD, my EHD and discs, plus they are on his computer.

My scrap stuff is backed up to my EHD only. My layouts are backed up to disc and EHD.

Once it is in at least two other places, I feel ok to delete them.

This reminds me that I should back up again soon.

I try to keep my lappy as "clean" as possible and really don't STORE pics, music or scrap stuff on it at all. I have the room to, but just don't... b/c it seems like once I get into that habit, I get lazy with backing up (NOT good - I've learned the hard way on that!!)

I upload all of my photos and LOs to SmugMug, which keeps the original size/version, plus I backup to DVD four times/year, backup daily to Mozy.com (which is automatic, so I don't have to actively do anything), and backup oncee/month to my EHD.

I don't really consider my EHD a form of reliable backup, but I do consider Mozy, my DVDs and Mozy to be a backup.

Oh, I guess mine are backed up to Scrapbook Pictures too, as they let you keep them on their server as long as you maintain an account with them. I've been purchasing prints through them for a year and a half, so not all my layouts are there, but the more recent ones are. Better than nothing if there was a catastrophe!

How do you get them off of flickr at full size? I can't get anything but the viewable resized version of my photos.

At the top it says "All sizes" then when you click on that, you should be able to get the high res ones. That's how I get a lot of my scrapping pics in between EHD backups, DH uploads to Flickr from his computer and I snag em. LOL

I have a flikr account so I guess I could do that as well. I never thought about that one! I'm looking into one of the offsite backups. I think it was Mozy that said it deletes the file 30 days after you delete it from your hard drive. I can't find that info on Carbonite yet and have to look at a few others.
