Now that I've got one, I've committed myself to learning how to shoot in manual modes. With that thought, I'm wondering how you all shoot.

Full manual, but it took me a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time to be comfortable enough to do that. Years really.

I usually use manual. Sometimes if I am shooting my dd softball game, I might put it in TV or shutter priority. BUT never auto. ;)

I took a photography class for 6 weeks and it was the best $120 I ever spent. Books, don't help me. Having a person stand there and explain it with my camera ... I got it.

I dont have a clue how to shoot in manual - I shoot in auto or flash off most of the time, sometimes the action mode too.

The lenses you have make a HUGE difference. I have the kit lens for general shoots, a 50mm 1.8 for portraits in natural light and before Hawaii, I invested in an ultra-wide angle Sigma 10-20mm for my landscape shots - it is TRULY amazing!

I also LOVE my point and shoot Canon Powershot SD750 as much as my Rebel for vacation shots - I'm a snap and go, camera in pocket kind of girl when I travel.

I'm mostly full manual although I sometimes will use Av (mostly with the kids) so I just have to set the ISO & aperture and it does the rest. Before learning the manual modes I used Program, I've never really used Auto though cause I hate using the flash.

I bought my camera and immeditately started using Manual. Like, the first day I bought it, I put it on manual and I never looked back. I recently started using Aperature Priority mode, which is awesome for fast moving action type stuff. I like just setting the aperature I want, and letting the camera take care of the shutter speed.

I dont have a DSLR. I have an advanced P & S though. All the same controls/settigns as an SLR and I use program mode mainly. I have used all of the settings on the camera except automatic though.

I'm also trying to use manual more, but until now I've shot in aperture priority mode or in kids mode.

I've been using my dslr for 2+ years now and I'm still learning :) When I got it though I would not let myself use automatic...I started in some of the controlled manual modes and as I learned started playing in full manual. I tried books etc, but honestly the best way to learn your camera is to just get out and use it kwim?

Mostly I use the program modes - macro, portrait & landscape. I try to use the sports mode but never get a decent photo. I use full auto sometimes. I play a bit with the manual settings but not much. Someday. I just haven't had much time to fiddle with them

Aperture mode is my favorite. I hate shutter priority and can never get full manual correct for some reason. If I need to just snap away and not worry about fooling with settings I'll leave it on auto.

That's what I need to do Heidi. Of course I could take the Ritz classes that came with my camera but I just never have the time... :(

So, I primarily shoot in Auto. I really want to learn to shoot in manual but I need hands-on training.

I have the Canon 5D M2 and I use mostly Aperature Priority mode. Sometimes, when I really need to control the camera, I will shoot in Manual. I rarely shoot with a flash but when I do, I use an external flash that I am bouncing off of an opposing wall.

Oh.....and I shoot all my photos in RAW format which is great when it comes time for post processing.

Pretty much always auto. I'll switch to a program mode when I need something specific - sports, kids, etc., and shoot with the flash off when I need to. I'd love to learn how to shoot in manual and that's my ultimate goal, but I haven't been disciplined enough to take the time to do it yet.

I'm full manual everyday...no matter where I am at!! I use my speedlight inside and sometimes use it for fill flash outside. I was in manual from day one....I read the manual from front to back before I even took a picture with my first SLR (I had the D40x and upgraded to the D90 last year). There are days where I am tempted to turn it to auto to make is go quicker but I haven't yet!! LOL

I am a beginner and I mostly shoot in aperture value mode, as depth of field tends to be the most important factor in my shooting these days. However, I am getting more comfy in manual now that I understand how to read the meter thingy :p

I voted number 2....I do love to have control, but I don't know enough to shoot full manual. I've tried and I have a loooong way to go!!
