Geesh... groceries...

Alright so, somebody s'plain to me why it is that I did a MINI grocery trip (bread cuz I've been too lazy to make it lately, milk, cereal, lunch meat, necessities like that) and it was $70. SEVENTY FREAKING DOLLARS!!! :cursing::cursing: Albeit, I've been starting to incorporate more organic stuff into our diet so yeah, that's part of it but STILL... CRIPES!

*sigh*

That is all.

Oh but milk was $1.68 so yeah, I was stoked about that. lol

Ugh, I *hate* grocery shopping! A shopping trip that would have cost me $80 eighteen months ago now costs closer to $130! I hate it!!

I'm a lucky gal b/c DH does the grocery shopping (before you think he's all fabulous - well, I guess he is LOL - but he really started doing the grocery shopping 'cause he said I spent too much and I'm like whatevah . . . knock yourself out) . . . BUT I do have to listen to him complain about how much the price of things has gone up. And we can tell that our disposable income (the little there was) is gone . . . eaten up by groceries. GRRR.

I went to the store on saturday for potatoes (to make crash potatoes), tortillas for tacos, garlic bread,, baked lays, and a small thing of sour cream.

I spent $108.

There's a reason I don't do the grocery shopping normally.

Seriously, I purt-near have an anxiety attack every time I'm at the grocery store. Everything is so expensive and then I feel bad about getting the cheap crap because the cheap crap has all of the sodium and it's processed to high heaven etc etc etc... and then I freak out because if I get a bunch of fresh, good stuff or organic stuff, it goes to waste and/or no one's bellies are full. But I'm a tad neurotic so maybe it's just me lol

Hey - I only went in for the ingredients for pico de gallo (it is cinco de mayo donchaknow LOLOL) and spent $50. That's one expensive fresh salsa condiment LOLOL

I hate it when my milk costs $138.24. Seriously, wt? I even have a list that says, "MILK."

Ugh, it is ridiculous the way the prices have gone up lately. I used to be able to get out of there for $70 during the big shopping trips, now its more like $140 or so.

mm yes tell me about it annie. I shop every week, there's only two of us....... I cant tell you the last time i twas under 80 bucks. I never buy that much either.. *annoying*

This is the very reason I only shop once a month!!! I make a menu for one month and I buy everything in one stop......I can feed our family of 6 for $350 buck a month and none of it is "processed" stuff. I use fresh or frozen fruits/veggies and everything else is made from scratch. This total also includs all health & beauty products, cleaners and diapers....everything!!!I then keep $40 to $50 bucks cash in a envelop for weekly trips of bread, milk, eggs and additional fruit.

I will admit we slacked a little in Feb/Mar because I was so sick with morning sickness....but we are right back on track!!!

Before I started this way we use to spend probably $600 to $700 dollars a month on groceries.

I do the same thing except I go every 2 weeks...and it's normally less than $200 a trip :) Our Kroger has 4lb ground turkey for 6.99!! That's less than $2 lb so I normally buy 8lb at least and that along with sales and I make out ok. I buy in bulk a lot..but I also have a large family so it kinda evens out and not much goes bad. I do go on small trips here or there but normally stay under 20 bucks a trip...I don't mind spending a huge chunk up front b/c I know it saves me throughout the month w/out having to make small trips

I know!! I went to the grocery store and it was just going to be a fast small trip. Just had a few things on the grocery list.... so when the checkout lady said it was $70 dollars, I was just stunned. I paid but before I left the store, I had to look at the receipt... yep, the price was correct. And I didn't even get any meat or other pricy essentials. And just forget bringing the kids with me to the store... we'll walk out with $200 of stuff because they "need" things. Ugh! I swear, I'm gonna need to get a third job to pay for groceries!

I'm staying out of Wal-Mart Super Center for the next few days. Every time I go in there it costs me $100. I'm honestly better off picking up stuff from the expensive grocery store. Then I just grab what I need because I'm too cheap to put all the other stuff in my cart!

The bear of it is that I DO make a lot of stuff homemade... bakery stuff (bread, treats, waffles, pancakes [AND the baking mix], and so on) and cleaning supplies.. and meals of course, I don't remember the last time I bought hamburger helper, just as a lame example.

And I make menus for all meals and snacks... and stick to them. And I buy whatever I can, that won't spoil, in bulk... etc. Somehow we still end up over budget. We ate like KINGS just a couple years ago within the same budget and never worried! Boy are those days gone.

Well, you're making me nervous now! I have to run to the store in a minute because I'm out of bread.

I mostly shop at Trader Joes during the week though, and prices aren't too high there. Whole wheat bread used to be $1.39, but it's only $1.69 right now.

Groceries are already expensive here, because we're in such a rural area. It's nothing to spend $100 on groceries here you get hardly anything.

Well, I got back from Trader Joes, and the whole wheat bread that used to be $1.39, went to $1.69 is now $1.99. I bought four loaves, lots of salad stuff, and then proceeded to fill my cart with other goodies to the tune of $106.00. YIKES!!
