Gah... would this bother you?

So we went out to DH's family's neck of the woods over the weekend to visit... well, we went to 3 different houses and at each house I found photos of my kids with my business watermark on them. Meaning somebody took them off of my Flickr account without my knowledge. Somebody = SIL

Would this annoy you?

UPDATE... I just emailed the clan saying that if they like photos and want the high quality, non-crappy version of a photo sent to them, to just let me know. Of course, 5 minutes later, I've got literally 10 emails in my inbox from different people asking for photos. Oy vey.

No, not really, since she's family. But that's just me. It is kinda weird that she printed the photos with the watermark. I think normal people would just ask to have a non-watermarked photo.

My in-laws do stuff like that alot. I take pictures of my daughter and she posts them on her account and my MIL will take them and print them out and have them somewhere in her house. I ask her how she got it because I never gave it to her and she never asked for them and she tells me oh Crystal said it was ok. Crystal told me she never told her it was ok to take them and print them she just sees a picture she likes and just takes it basically. It kinda did bug me but I didnt really say anything to them except asking my MIL where she got the photos from.

Yes, that would annoy me!! My mom does it all the time even though I tell her, "Ma, I'll send you the print file." or "Ma, let me print those FOR you so they don't look like shizz." Nope...she does it anyway. Last time I posted pictures for family, I put the watermark right on the boys' faces. She called me to complain. :p

It would bug me, but I think you should also be flattered(or glad) that she wants your pics. Maybe she just doesn't know how to ask for them or feels weird about asking, kwim?

I am not saying it is ok for her to do it(it is very weird, if you ask me) but better than her having a ton of pics of other grandkids or nieces, nephews, etc and none of your kids out. I have seen situations where it was obvious that the not-pictured kids were thought of as second rate. That would hurt worse than the weirdness... does this make any sense?

It wouldn't bother me at all. If it's on the net, it's fair game IMHO.

Having said that, I can understand how you would be annoyed.

My MIL makes me nuts, so I'd probably have a fit. If it were my mom, I'd just reprint them for her so they didn't have the watermark. It's kinda weird, though, IMO. I wouldn't want watermarked pics up in my house...idk.

On a photography/scrapper level, it would bother me like all badly lit miscropped amateur photos do. I would hate to have my name associated with watermarked photos since I'm such an 'artist.' :p

On a personal level, no, it wouldn't bother me. I would think it was strange that someone would want to put up watermarked photos in their house, but whatever. Their call. As long as they weren't photos that were in a private account that I knew the person would have had to have hacked or photos I'd specifically told them not to use for some reason... whatever.

No, it wouldn't bother me. My ILs do that all of the time (there are no watermarks on mine). I'm just happy they want photos of the kids. However, it does make me feel like I should be giving them more photos vs. making them get them off the internet. I'm not very good about printing out photos and giving them to people and I know that most people would rather just print them themselves vs. asking you to print them.

Now, it would bother me if my SIL distributed the prints to others.

That's just what she did Sheri... she printed them up and passed them out! Gah!

She has a long history of not respecting my boundaries so I'm just generally annoyed towards her without anything like this to add fuel. LOL

Ah, oh well, I'll just have to delete my photos. *shrug*

your sister in law took photos you took of your kids and displayed them in her home?

if so...why does it bother you that she wants piccies of your kiddos up in her house? i would be embarrassed that i hadn't gotten pics she could display sooner. your weird.

I don't know if I'd be bothered or not....mine have never felt compelled to do anything like that. They just don't put pictures up that are not "professional" pictures, even though Tony is a paid photographer :glare:

Yeah. Really nice. So they only have school pictures, or pictures taken at Sears when the kids were babies up on the wall, because I don't "take them" to get their pictures taken. Whatever.

Mom would do it, but she's not computer literate enough. LOL

It wouldn't bother me if it was family. Most people don't get the whole thing about photos belonging to the photographer... they just think they can grab them no matter what. I dunno.

That's true... having been doing signatures and scrapbooking for so long, it all makes sense to me... but yeah, you're right.

Nope...it really wouldn't bother me. My mom always printed the little web sized ones I would send her in an email...and then try to blow them up on regular ink jet paper. Her whole wall in her office is decorated with these horrible photos. Oh well!!

Nope, I wouldnt be bothered, my family would SOOO do that too..
I guess just flattered they want pics of my dd up enough that they're willing to use a watermarked one.. ;)

The fact that she passed them out to other family members would bother me. My MIL prints out things my DH sends her, not print quality, and pretty much claims them as her own. Including layouts, and she doesn't even scrap. How's that for annoying?

But she passed them out to your family. That would only bother me a little, and I would make it stop by printing off photos and sending them to family members more often. I think it's nice that they want pictures of your kids. Maybe she doesn't even realize what the watermark is for.

It would be weird. But, my mom is known to print out pictures that are only72dpi. It's her way of telling me that I never give her good quality pics.

I'd be a bit miffed by it and probably tell everyone who had a copy "you know, I can send you a high quality non-marked copy of that photo or any other photo of mine. Just ask & it's yours." It would be the lack of asking first that bugged me. My SIL and I both link each other to our albums but neither of us would print a photo out without asking.

But we both know we are probably not uploading the print quality photo.

nah, at least she has photos of your kiddos. DH's dad doesn't have one photo in sight of DH, me or the kiddos.

wouldn't bother me at all. If it's on the web, it's fair game. Anyone in the entire world can print it and have it up on their wall. That's why I am careful what I put on the web. I grab photos from my sisters' blogs all the time. It's the only way I ever get photos of my nieces. I made a little mini-album from pictures from my sisters' blogs for my mom for mothers' day. If I waited for them to email me the photos, I'd never get them. And they never send photos to my mom either. In fact, none of us do. My mom grabs photos of my girls from my blog, too.
