Seriously...

Don't worry. Lawmakers do lots of those kind of fluff pieces of legislation. It doesn't mean anything will happen with it. I see lots of that in my job. If he doesn't have any co-sponsors, the bill will quickly die. At least that's how it would work here.

What drives me crazy are the resolutions to honor kids' sports teams or people who are 90+ years old. We get those all the time this time of year, and THAT is a waste of space. Sure, XYZ High School's basketball team won State this year, but SOMEBODY has to win State EVERY year, right? Do they really need a piece of paper from the state legislature saying they did a good job? Isn't their trophy enough?! And yes, it's great that Mabel is 91 years old and lived in Indiana all her life, but is this piece of paper telling her she's great really going to make her life so much better and complete?!

I hate printing those things off.

that's the best news i've heard!!! although i think there is a special place for them down below. why did they get sued? do you know?

In a nutshell, a lady that used to work for Mattel and helped design barbies, left the company, went to the company that makes Bratz (we will refer to them as Ho's R Us) and designed their dolls. Apparently she signed something saying she could not do that with Mattel and so they sued saying she used trade secrets for the enemy and they won. They were supposed to be gone by February but some Ho lovin judge gave them a stay of execution until the end of 2009.

ETA: the article I had read before said it was a lady that did this, but the one I just read, said it was a guy.

well, I have a kid that plays with Barbies and Bratz ... I have no issue with either. lol

But, if you are gonna ban Barbie ... better do away with Nerf guns (do we want to promote gun use of any kind?), army figurines (cause seriously, how many kids play those as if they are defending their country?), talking animals (cause how many animals have you met that actually talk IRL?), battery-operated ride-on toys (can't have children learning they can drive before they have a driver's license) ... man, I could keep going on things that should be banned!

I read that on this link...and one of the comments was:

And Ken--get rid of Ken too. We can't let girls grow up playing with this model of a man--he has no balls.

I nearly wet myself LOL

I think it's lame, my kids have Barbies and they LOVE them. I love them LOL

OK, iced tea snorted out the nose does not feel good!!! If we're going to start banning stuff, how about that purple dinosaur? He should have been extinct a long time ago

What a waste!

I loved Barbie and never once (even as a child) did I believe that anyone really looked like her - her boobs are enormous!

They've actually shrunk them since we were kids I think. I was looking at them the other day and thought her boobs were small these days :)

yeh she's totally shaped differently now.. they change her so much.

I had to chuckle, I finally read the article.. and it said something abotu how barbie portrays the image that you just have to be pretty and you don't need to have brains.. Hello................ barbie has a million jobs.. I know you said that already, LOL but I was just reiterating.. it's sillyness. KEN on the other hand.. has no jobs that I know of-- maybe HE is portraying the wrong image.. all you have to do is be a pretty boy to get by in the world..... cause, barbie obviously rules shizz. Chicks are awesome. That's what barbie is portraying.. Oooooooooh shame..

Ya'll know that Bratz dolls will be no more after this year right? They got sued by Mattel and they have until the end of the year and then they are to be gone for good, back to that happy hooker place in the sky!!

I heard this, and it makes me happy! Out with the skanky hooker dolls marketed to little girls!!!

haha, seriously! Plus she had all those cars, her dream house...last I checked it was the Barbie Dream House not the Ken Dream House. Who's to say she didn't buy it for herself? :D

OMGOSH I think that's it! Men are threatened by Barbie - the real reason they want her banned is because she's teaching girls to rule the world and not accept mediocrity in their lives.

So what you're really saying is that Ken was a bit of a mimbo. :D

What an idiot! Surely thy have more important things to worry about than Barbie dolls!

FWIW I don't have a problem with the Barbie or Bratz dolls. My girls have both (though they do have more Barbie dolls) and play with all of them, they're just a toy so I really don't see what the big deal is

Ken is a problem. He's a kept man. Nothing is Ken's. Does Ken have a job? No. Does Ken have a car? No. Does Ken have a house? No. When was the last time you saw an ad for Ken clothes? It's all Barbie's & she just lets him use some of it sometimes. Ken is entirely dependant on her. She's had numerous jobs, been a doctor, a lawyer, a vet. Barbie's got it all. She has the power.

And she's done it all high heels. That is a role model.

ETA... DH just said "When you put it that way I see I should have spent less time trying to be GI Joe & more time trying to be Ken. Ken has a sweet life, the gigolo." :)

Stupid. I had a neighbor that didn't let her 3 small girls play with Barbie dolls. They're dolls..seriously. Teach your kids to respect themselves and you shouldn't have to worry about what other people think Barbie is gonna teach them.

Glad Sophia and her Bratz collection will have someone to play with *snort* LOL

I haven't read all the way through... so sorry if I'm repeating someone else...

Sorry to break it to you bub, but just banning Barbie isn't going to change a thing. There are cartoons, TV shows, magazines, movies, commercials, etc that aid in the way people see themselves these days. Is he going to try to get all media exposure banned as well?

dumb. Barbie doesn't cause girls to have body issues, that's silly. If a 12" tall plastic doll has more influence over your child then real people you have issues. I know when I was a kid I NEVER wanted to look like Barbie. She's a freak. Her waist is so small her clothes don't fit her, lol.
My girls have Barbies and Bratz dolls and they don't influence my girls. They don't like most of the clothes they wear so they strip them and play with them naked half the time.

And then what's next...ban GI Joe and other army men because it makes boys violent. I know my son gets all Rambo whenever he gets new plastic army men and goes around pretending to shoot everyone like we're in the middle of a war.

Pretty soon kids won't have anything left to play with but a hoop and stick or a tin can (but kicking that around would be littering so they'd take that, too).

There's a place for educational toys but there is nothing wrong with playing with toys for the sheer joy of playing with them, with absolutely no educational value, lol.

This is a joke, right? :cursing:

I STILL play with Barbie...well, I collect Barbies and I don't think I have a mixed up view of myself. Let's see...graduated in the top 5% of HS...CHECK! Graduated from university with a 4.0 in my major and a 3+ overall...CHECK! IT Project Manager for a Fortune 100 company...CHECK!

YEP! Barbie really messed up my life! :cursing:
