to california. staying with my BIL til we get our own place. they live in Salinas. we are leaving Friday. so i'll be missing for a few days, lol. this is a decision we've been pondering for awhile now. we both feel like we need a new start, someplace different. i'll be in touch when we get there! we're driving one car and DH is coming back in a few months either to move our stuff on his own or to pay movers to do it. we're lucky we own our house so we can just leave it and his other brother is going to buy it from us. nervous about driving from Indiana to Cali, but i have never seen that side of the country so i'm excited too. i'll be taking lots of pics!

Ooo, Central Coast area! That's where I'm originally from. The Salinas news was our local news station.

This is what I always think of when I think of Salinas. It's a play on Nelly's Country Grammar by one of the Salinas radio stations. Salinas Grammar :D (that was the only link I could find but I think it should work.)
 
Hey,we're in Salinas too! :) We just moved from Monterey, and bought a house in Salinas. Monterey is gorgeous! Salinas, eh, notsomuch! Still it's only 30 ish minutes to drive back to Monterey. :p

yes, i'm scared, lol. i've already looked at some houses and found some in the 120,000-135,000 range, 3-4 bedrooms that look nice. we'll be getting a VA Home loan so our interest rate should be fairly decent we hope. we may not qualify right away, but we're going to try! plus, his BIL and SIL say we can stay as long as needed, we'll chip in for utilities and food of course. we're lucky we have them to help us out or this wouldn't be happening, lol. they have a daughter, i think she's 9? i'm not sure, that my kids have never met. i have only met his brother once about 10 years ago, lol. they used to live in Arizona and then inherited this big house in Salinas.

Good luck. I read what Traci wrote about prices....yeah...

It's crazy expensive here and expect it to get worse, the governor just raised taxes ONCE again.
 
Wow Corey! Keeping my fingers crossed all goes well... got family in Laguna Beach, San Fran and Napa Valley if you need recs. :)
