facial cleansers

Ive been breaking out lately around my nose and chin and forehead and I was using a facial scrub but it made me break out really bad and even caused some dry patches and abrasions on my face. It looks really bad so I stopped using it as soon as I saw it was making it worse and not better. I dont want to spend alot of money but I want something that will curb any breakouts and not cause other issues on top of the breakouts Im already having. Any recomendations?

(oh and can I say how much this sucks because when I was a teenager I never broke out!! Now im in my thirties and I feel like I have been tranplanted intto a teenagers body :-( )

Proactiv! Seriously..I know it's not the cheapest but it WORKS. I've been using it for 4 years and have no problems with my skin like I used to.

I am not claiming to have perfect skin, but I'll tell ya this:

Daily I use the Target knockoff of Nutragena Deep Cleanser
Twice Weekly I use the Saint Ive's Apricot Scrub
When I have a really hideous breakout, I use the Mint Julep Mask (I don't know who makes it, they have it at Target), and I leave it on overnight.

I say ProActiv too. My skin is a thousand times better. IT's still not perfect, but it's my fault for not using the stuff every day and as directed. I have really fair and dry sensitive skin with a lot of redness. ProActiv is really the only thing that has worked for me.

Proactiv cleanser. it's about $20 for a bottle - use a small amt daily (more often will dry your skin more causing it to oil more). You can do the whole cleanser, toner, lotion system to get it clear but usually the cleanser alone works.

I had those big red bumpy kind of acne and it took care of them. wish I had tried it years ago!!!

Exact-a-mundo!!!

I will say do not buy the Wal-Mart knock-off of Clearsil. It smells like bar soap and dried my skin right the heck up.

I also suddenly started breaking out in my late 20s. I finally went to a dermatologist and he perscribed Retin A and its working thus far. I only have pimples pop up right now in places its pretty obivious I missed when putting it on.

I buy the Target brand of the Cetaphil. I used to use Philosophy's Purity, but I've heard they changed the formulation and people are now breaking out from it, and then new formula did burn my eyes a bit.

I don't really break out anymore, but in my early 20's and 30's I did. A lot of it was hormones, and I was either pregnant or nursing most of those years. Some of my friends had better skin while they were pregnant, mine was the opposite. I too didn't suffer from breakouts in my teen years.

My youngest is 17, and he suffers from the occasional breakout, and I bought him the Mary Kay zapper. If he uses that, it really helps his skin. I'm not sure of the name, but it is just a little tube and you put it on if you break out.

I'm not using Proactiv right now, but I LOVED it when I WAS using it. Even though it's kinda expensive, the bottles lasted me way longer than they were "supposed" to.

I really like the St Ives Olive face wash. It doesn't dry my skin out like other cleansers, but it also is a good exfoliator.

This is what I use

It's $47.00 for the set. You can only buy it through the Quixtar site. I love it...I've been using it for several months now.

I have also used Proactiv in the past and that worked for me as well.

the saint ives crap is what is causing my skin to break out so bad. I used it once and it was ok that time and the second time I used it I had these horrible dry patches and my face was bright red. I woke up in the morning and it was like abraisions on my chin, my nose and a few on my cheeks.

oh I have super sensitive skin too so I bought the st ives for sensitive skin. I dont get white heads or blackheads just like red swollen ones. I used to get compliments on my skin as a teen and throughout my twenties. It was like when I turned 30 all of a sudden I started getting these breakouts. I think mine is hormonal too because I notice it more around that time of the month

I third fourth and fifth the proactive...There are 7 kids in my family we all have VERY bad acne--the scaring type..and we've used it and it's amazing..i'm out currently so i've started doing the whole breakout thing..time to order more :) ((FUNNY THERE IS A COMMERCIAL PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND---ironic!!))

DANG! I was feeling content with what I'm using, but if I can have skin like yours, I'm gonna check out that stuff you use!!

But I came here to post that I use Acne Free but the one with Redness Reducer, which I bought at Walgreen's for $14.95 for the 3 piece set, and I cannot believe what a difference it has made in my skin! I have used Proactiv for the last two years, and I was happy with it, except that it didn't help with the redness. Acne Free is cheaper AND works better on my skin.

I went through horrible breakouts with NOTHING working at all. I used Murad, Proactive, went to the dermotoligist & nada.

I have been using cetaphil cleanser, benzoil peroxide on the very few breakouts I have been getting and Aveno Daily lotion for sensitive skin.

Not 100% clear, but getting better.

I recently started using a Clean and Clear Product that's a steam facial. You use it in the shower so that the heat and steam pulls the crap out of your pores. My skin is so soft and smooth now, I'm totally loving it. It's this one here.

I use St Ives Apricot Scrub for sensitive skin every other day. I used to use the regular kind for years then it started drying out my skin. I also use Target brand 'acne wipes' I think they are called daily & follow it up with Neutrogena moisturizer.

Thanks :) I still do get the occasional breakouts...when I do get them they are the red swollen ones and as soon as I get rid of one another one rears its ugly head. I might look into Acne Free.

I used that Acne Free and it worked great the first set, not as well the second set, the third set, not at all. I heard from a few people the same thing.

I had the same issue, when I was using it daily...that's why I started doing it just twice a week. For me, in little doses, it makes my skin nice and soft.
