Newbie!!

Hi everyone! I have been purchasing from Sweet Shoppe for quite a few months but have not ventured into the forums much.

First off....I love Sweet Shoppe!!! I'm gonna go broke! HAHA! I love it that much.

Second...how does everyone keep everything organized? I have different memory sticks (which filled up rapidly). Do you divide your things into categories such as embellishments, papers, fonts, etc. ? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what would work best. I'm actually going to get an external hard drive to store all of this on. I will start with a 500 mb one first.

I'm learning to put different things together. When I first started I had a hard time using the different elements...slowly my creativity is coming out!

Anyway....I guess I should introduce myself after all that...

My name is Michelle. I am 28 years old and live in Chino Hills, CA. I am a Registered Nurse and work with oncology (cancer) patients. Becoming a nurse is the best decision I have ever made (aside from divorcing my ex husband, hehe!) :p

I'm having a blast looking at all the layouts from everyone! They blow me away!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Michelle

Welcome Michelle. I'm not going to be much help on the organizing stuff. I know there are several different methods out there and those who actually use them can probably offer some advice. :) Anyway, I just wanted to say 'hi'.

Hey Michelle! Welcome!

I have a seperate folder for kits, elements, templates and albums. Not too organized, but it works for me! :)

Hey Michelle welcome I'm new too :)

I have a 2nd harddrive that I store all my photos and kits in.

I organise them into a big digikits album with some sub albums (commercial use, seasonal, freebies) but I'm pretty OCD LOL xxx

Hi there, Michelle!

I organize like this:

Shop
Designer
Kit
Alphas
Elements
Papers

If the designer does an element pack as a stand alone, it gets a folder like a kit. If it's a collaboration kit, I typically put it in the folder of the first designer listed, unless one of the designers is someone I'm on a CT for, then it goes to their folder. If it's a site collab, it goes into another folder with that designation.

It sounds convoluted, but it works for me. I don't like to split up my kits, I need things in specific places with their kit mates.

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome!! Great idea for organizing. I need to get my external HD first then I can commence to organizing to my needs.

Thanks!!!!!!

Welcome Michelle!

My best tool to organize my stuff is ACDSee, now I can finally mitch and match things!!

Welcome to SSD! I know you'll love it here, its such a great community.

I personally don't have enough scrapbooking supplies (yet!) to get an EHD, so I have a scrapbooking folder on my computer, which is then divided by online store, and then by kit. From there, it is divided into Alphas, Elements, and Papers. I'm thinking about organizing by store, then designer, but SSD has so many combo kits, I'm not sure how I'll decided which designer's folder it'll go under! (:

Welcome to SSD, Michelle!!!

I organize by Designer, and then in designer folders, I have Kits, Alphas, Paper Packs, Element packs, etc.

I have a separate folder for SSD Collabs, and they all go there, except for Perfect Pairs go under the SSD designer. :)

Welcome Michelle!

I don't organize my stuff by designers. I have a folder for alphas, ribbons, flowers, staples and stitching etc.

Welcome! Be sure you get it organized ASAP (yes I am speaking from experience) and back up to at least 2 more places! I had 2 external drives fail within a day of each other...and it cost me $645 for my data to be restored...and still lost a bit (still discovering bit by bit)...and now i have to reorganize it because the restore messed up some of it.

Anyway I store mine by:

THEME (baby, boy, girl, toys, fun kid kits, fun places to go, holiday - birthday, holiday - Christmas, holiday - Valentines (etc etc), season - fall, season - spring (etc), PETS (inside I have CAT folder and a DOG folder), SPORTS - Bowling, SPORTS - Basketball, SPORTS - baseball

Inside each of these themed folders is each kit that corresponds to it. Makes it really really fast when I want to find a certain kind of kit.

I do have a folder especially for Sweet Shoppe Designs...has everything from the designers in it (it is organized a bit differently)...because I work on challenges here every month...it makes it real easy and quick to do the challenges because everything is in the one master folder.

My templates however are divided this way (thanks to Stacy/Pewtertm):
1 Photo, 2 Photo, (etc), 2 Pagers, Torn Paper templates, TO SORT (this is HUGE...all the templates I haven't sorted yet).

Good luck and welcome!

...and get those files organized and double backed up so you don't have to pay $645 for your data to be restored!!!

WOW! Thanks for the information Sharon! I will definitely back it up somewhere else. My computer crashed about a year ago...had a new HD installed and of course I lost all of my precious pictures. So...I'm paranoid now about it crashing again. Sheesh.

Let the organizing begin!!!!
