Have You Been To Monster Jam?

We're thinking of taking the kids to Monster Jam this upcoming weekend...has anyone been? I know the kids will absolutely love it...though might find it a little loud.

Anyway...if you've been, what did you think, and do you have any tips for taking the kids? They're 6 and 4.

I haven't been, but I thought I would mention (not to scare you), we had a recent show in WA where a 6 year old boy died when a piece of one of the vehicles flew into the audience and struck him. Apparently there have been two deaths in the last couple of months. So if you go, don't sit within 50 feet of the arena!

We've been. The kids love it! DD (5) was a little bored after a bit but DS (3) was on cloud 9. We brought ear protection for them but they didn't keep them on, they just plugged their own ears.

just a FYI, reports indicate the second death was not to a spectator, it was an event promotor that stepped in front of a truck - didn't know the truck was going to move, and the driver of the truck didn't see the promotor.

I haven't taken my kids, but I would love to! I think they would all love it (well, maybe not Jenna so much, but the boys sure would!).

They'll be in Calgary Feb 13-15...just FYI. :)

How long did it last? We're trying to decide between going at 2pm or 7:30pm...

Oh geez, I wanna say it was a couple hours at least but I can't recall... there was some dirt bike thing in the middle that went on FOREVER... it was irritating. But it was worth it to see the fire breathing robot thing lol

It was definitely the promoter/announcer for the event. We were supposed to go to the next day's show here in Madison. We were actually on our way to the show when we heard that it was canceled and why. :(

Both instances were tragic and FREAK accidents and both were at Monster NATIONAL shows, not Monster Jam.

Bree, the Monster Nationals show says it lasts 2-2½ hours. Not sure about Monster Jam.

*fingers crossed someone takes a stab at making a kit for Monster Jam!!*

We were going to take our 3yo but he doesn't do well with really loud noises.. the irony of being a Monster Jam freak!

We've been to the Monster Jams . Our boys were 3 and 7 and they love dit! Here in Holland they kept the first rows free for safety and they handed out earplugs. They used them and kept them in the whole time.

If they have a pitparty before the show I would suggest you take them there! They can see the trucks and meet the drivers; that's so amazing to them!

We have been, we even bought the VIP tickets where you can go in before the show and see the trucks up close. My boys loved it when we went, it was a few years ago. I do have to say that if it's a small arena, ,it's pretty lame. They can't do much in a small spot but that being said, your kids will probably think it's awesome but because my dh and boys watch it on TV they were expecting more.

I want to go so bad. They come every year around Jan. 29th and I say every year Im gonna buy tickets but it always ends up that we are broke at that time. My son went with his uncle when he was about 9 or 10 I think and he absolutely loved it!! If I recall he said before they started the show they walked around and were allowed to see the trucks and meet the drivers (I think but like I said I was not there). He bought a t-shirt and a magazine/book type thing that had all the trucks in them.

Yeah, I found free pit passes to print off...but they're only good if you have tickets to a certain show...PROBABLY the one we are going to go to, lol. We'll probably end up doing that, too...

My dh wants to take our ds, but I think he's a bit young this year (2). Next year I think would be a better idea.

We went last year when the boys were 3 and it was a big hit! I'd say go! FYI, you can get monster truck cars at Walmart and Target for less than $3 a piece or get sucked into buying one there for like $10.

Oh and have hearing protection, we used ear plugs.

My dad and DH took Cam when he was four. It was at a smaller venue and they said it was pretty lame. The fire-breathing robots were cool, I guess. But the size of the arena made it hard for the trucks to do anything really cool.

So I guess I'm saying it depends on teh size are of arena. Bigger is better.

Bring ear plugs!!! But other than that...it was fun. We took Jake when he was 3 and he had a blast.

Now that Braden is almost 2, we'll probably go again!!!!

It'll be in a professional (NHL) hockey arena, with half the bottom seats taken out, so pretty big area. Mason loves to watch on TV, so I hope he'll enjoy it. :)

I was just coming back here to say bring ear protection, those things are loud and do serious long term damage to your hearing!

Oh The kids are gonna love it!!!! We have been many, MANY times in Edmonton and few times in Saskatoon (same shows) they aren't too long that the kids will get bored and they are loud, but not deafening. You guys are going to have a great time!
