Has it really been 23 years ago since Space Shuttle Challenger?

I still remember watching this terrible tragedy. I am watching a special about it on National Geographic as I type.
 
Wow! I was in third grade when this happened. I was home sick watching t.v. and I remember them breaking in with this story. I can't believe it's been that long already!

crazy! I think I was in the same grade AND I was home sick too. :blink:
 
I was in sixth grade too and our teacher couldn't shut the TV off fast enough once the explosion happened.
 
I was in 9th grade on my way to 4th period French class. A guy was in the hallway saying 'yall, the space shuttle just blew up.' I remember telling him that wasn't funny (thought he was full of it...he WAS a smart a$$)...just couldn't imagine that something like that actually happened.
When I got into class, the substitute for the day told us it really had blown up, and let us go across the hall to the TV lab to watch the news.

(I also recall the 2nd shuttle disaster...it broke apart as it was flying over my then step-sisters home...she heard it but didn't know what had happened until we called her)
 
The more I think about it, the more I think I DID see it when it happened. I have a vague memory of a tv being set up in our classroom (was in 5th grade I think), remember those old trolley things with the wheels, that would have the tv on top? Of course, I am old, so I may be losing my mind too...but I do remember them announcing it on the PA. I feel like I did see it when it happened, and of course I've seen it lots of times since.

And yes, now I feel ancient.

I would have been in Kindergarten or not quite...not sure. I never heard about it until later on in elementary school when we were learning about space travel.

I was born in September 1979 and I was in kindergarten, so that should help you figure out if you were in then.
 
Now I feel REALLY old!! I was laying in bed, after just coming home from the hospital after having my second child. I woke up and turned on the television. Being that I was extra emotional from all those new baby hormones, I bawled like a baby all day.
 
I was in kindergarten... I remember watching the news about it and knowing that it was a very sad thing to have happen.
 
I remember where i was and what i was doing that day. I was at a colleague's house planning an even for May. Her son ran out telling us what'd happened but we didn't go back in and watch the tv. I later watched it taped on the tv specials and newscasts that day.
And yes, for crying out loud, will ya'll quit about being "old"? I was 32. So SHUT UP :p lol.
 
we watched it from my classroom window. I remember telling my teacher who had never seen a shittle launch that something was not right about how it went up and then had all those trails coming off of it. I also remember how we would usually go outside to watch the shuttle launch but it must have been really cold that day because we had to stay inside to watch it. We were on the second floor though and it was a pretty clear day so we had a good veiw. I also remember it was on every news channel and there was a special on one of the all day news channels on it.
 
I was in college & walking through the student union when I heard about it. They had the big TV in the lounge on & everyone was crowded in the area watching it.

I remember everytime someone asked somebody why they were all staring at the TV (because you couldn't see it or hear anything with all the people around it) & they were told the space shuttle exploded, the response was always "you're lying. What really is on?"

Thanks, Brooke! It's good to know I'm not the only old f$%t around here :p

I was 21 when it happened. I was at work and a collegue came in and told us she saw it on Good Morning America before she left for work.
 
I was in 4th grade. We were home that day, so it must have been a snow day or teacher workday. I can't believe it's been that long.
 
I was in 7th grade living in Ormond Beach FL..... I watched it happen live with my Social Studies class.... we didn't even know there was a problem until we went back into the school. I always felt super connected because Christa was from NH which is where I lived before we moved to FL (and where I live now).
 
Our World Cultures class was watching it live when it happened.

And we're coming up on the Space Shuttle Columbia explosion anniversary as well - Feb. 1st. :(
