American Idol Question

So what's up with this new judge..is she permanent? I mean I think I like her and all but is this some secret plan to maybe phase Paula out in the future you think? b/c that's the first thing that occurred to me when I saw the new chick. Did I miss some big announcement about them adding a 4th judge?

Dunno if she's going to replace Paula eventually...but I think she's permanent (at least for this season). Probably because Paula is so useless when it comes to the "live" segment, lol...

Kara DioGuardi is a permanent judge, she is not there to replace Paula in any way. They claim they were just looking for a fresh perspective on the contestants this season and she was the one to supply it.

I like her. I saw some thing on Entertainment tonight or something that Paula is throwing a fit about her. So she probably is meant to phase her out.

According to her bio on AI's site:

"We had originally intended for American Idol to have four judges," said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. "We've seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers."

Mike Darnell, President, Alternative Programming of FOX, added, "With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more 'girl power' on the show."

Canadian Idol has 4 judges...and then if you look at the other shows similar to AI's setup (SYTYCD, ANTM) - they have 4 judges usually as well.

she's permanent and not going to replace paula from what i hear. so far i really like her. i just read what bree posted too and i was gonna say that i like how it's even now. 2 guys. 2 girls. it's much better. sometimes paula was clobbered. i also like that kara isn't as sweet and dilusional as paula. she adds a lot of balance from what i've seen so far.

They're just trying to 'keep it fresh' after 7 seasons, kwim? New judge just plays into that technique.

I can't see that her and Paula really hate each other.. they used to be roommates. I think that's all rumor and crap. IMO.

Pretty sure then Simon gets the final say from another article I read. Like on SYTYCD, you need 3 votes to move on...

That happened the other night, Simon's vote is the tie-breaker. So if 2 say yes and 1 says no, if Simon's vote is also no, then it's a NO.

I don't care for her at all and I love Paula. She doesn't take anyone's dreams away and kicks the men's butts when they are rude.

Yes, some of these people are insane to think they can sing, but still, that is NO reason to be rude at them and call them names.

I like her too and I think she's a good support system for Paula. I always felt kind of bad for Paula since her opinion always seemed to matter less than Simon or Randy. At least now it seems a bit more even.

I really liked her as well...

I am thinking that she is probably like an "insurance" policy for Paula. Let's face it, while I love Paula, she tends to get a bit...um...unpredictable...during live shows. I think that with Kara there, she will be able to provide more feedback other than "You really looked beautiful tonight."

Exactly. I hated that the token female on the show is just a bumbling idiot without any quality feedback like EVER, lol. How a person LOOKS that night has nothing to do with their ability to sing. Really.
