shaking a little this morning

As you guys may know, dh drives an hour or so north of here every night to get to work. Last night, he made it to work by the skin of his teeth. I'm still shaking.

He left here around 11pm and headed north. He was on the interstate with a semi truck in front of him and a car traveling beside him (he was in the right lane). They're cruisin' along when suddenly the semi locks up his brakes. Marti tried to stop but they had hit a stretch of ice and he couldn't even slow down.

The car beside him lost control and spun around. With his headlights coming straight at Marti's driver's side door.

The semi truck jack-knifed.

Marti still can't stop.

They come down this hill and see a huge pile up of 8 cars... glass everywhere.

Marti still can't stop. He shoved it into neutral... still flying.

At this point, he's about to hit the semi, so he shoves it into park and prayed for the best as he tried to make his way to the shoulder (where the guardrail was... with a huge drop off).

Somehow, he made it through.

Unfortunately, 3 others didn't. There were 3 people killed. They closed the highway probably just minutes after Marti made it through there and it was shut down for hours while they cleaned up the wreckage.

*whew*

I do NOT like him driving that far late at night, and this just reiterates that feeling. I'm a mess this morning.

Oh my god Libby...and I was JUST thinking about you this morning. I was wondering how Marti is feeling...I know he had been sick for awhile. Yikes. I am glad to hear he is ok.

O.M.Goodness Libby!!!!! I can just imagine how shaken up and scared you must be!! That is so terrible! I am so glad that Marti is okay!!! I hate winter driving... its so dangerous!

ETA: Did Marti have any injuries at all? How is HE doing today??

Thanks guys! Nope, no injuries at all. He's completely fine. He's a little worried about his transmission simply because he had to shift so quickly when he couldn't stop. I told him I don't even CARE about the car. Transmissions can be replaced... husbands can't.

oh my goodness, my heart stopped reading your post. So glad your hubby is OK. Ice scares the crap out of me.

Oh Libby, that is so awful! I'm so happy that Marti is unscathed. My heart goes out to those families that lost their loved ones. What a scary experience! {{{HUGS}}}

Libby - how terrifying! Thank goodness Marti wasn't hurt! That black ice is so dangerous - how sad that 3 people died. God was watching over Marti last night!

OMGosh, Libby! How scary! I'm so glad he made it through okay! So sad for the other families! My DH drives 40 minutes each way for work & I hate it, so I know how you feel about worrying w/the traveling. (((HUGS)))

Ohhh Wow Libby this is scary!
I can just see Marty surrounded by his entire troop of guardian angels.
I can only imagine how upset I would have been, what an emotional ordeal.
Hugs dear friend.

How scary Libby. I am glad Marti is ok. {{{{Hugs}}}} to you.

Dave drives over an hour to work and it scares me everytime he leaves.

Thinking of you this morning.

Gosh, how terrifying! I never know what to say when stuff like this happens...Thank God Marti had an angel flying with him last night, but what about the people who didn't make it? My heart is just breaking! I know you are hugging him a little tighter today. I hope the car is fine, and I pray that he's not too shaken up when he has to drive to work again (nor you!)

Big gentle hugs for you and DH!

OMG Libby!!!! That is SO SO scary!! I am so thankful that Marti made it through safely. It's so sad that others didn't. :( I really hate this nasty, icy weather. Biggest hugs babe!!

Oh my Lord I don't even know what to say. I'd be shaking for weeks. I'm so glad he's alright. Terrible tragedy for the others involved

OhmyGod Libby. I got chills reading this cause I know that feeling and I've been there and so has my father. It is so super scary and words cannot describe the fear and the thought process behind the whole situation.

I am so glad he was not hurt. So glad. I also am very sad for those other 3 and their families.

Oh, Libby your story gave me goosebumps. That is so scary! I'm so very glad that he is okay. DH used to commute about the same distance (on an interstate too) and I would obsessively listen to the traffic reports and call him if I heard of any accidents.
