Brodo gettin her Swerb on
So as you all probably know by now, Jordan has the food palette of a 5 year old. He complains A LOT about how little I cook (which doesn't exactly make me want to cook any more than I do), and I want to try and change that. The problem being that I get tired of making pizza, or lasagna, or stuffed shells.

So, I need a good, wellounded, all-american-type cookbook. Preferably one with lots of beef recipes :p

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help :)

I find the cookbooks where people send in their own recipes to do a charity like thing to be the best for normal meals. I usually get all my tried and true recipes from them.

CROCK POT!
I love my crockpot because I hate cooking normally, and I can just throw stuff in the pot and everyone loves me.
There are TONS of crockpot and slowcooker cook books out there. But I did just buy the Better Homes & Garden cookbook at Barnes & Noble. It's got basic recipes like Beef Stew, Fried Chicken, etc plus TONS more. I think there are over 800 recipes in there. It was $20.

I swear by the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, too. Pretty basic stuff and even I haven't been able to mess up one of their recipes yet. ;-)

Honestly, when you are at walmart, at the checkout, look for the small magazine ones. Like the size of the old tv guide. Pillsbury has one, Betty Crocker makes one. There are others too, like Kraft. They have a nice little variety of stuff that you would probably already have in your cupboard/ freezer. I have a large collection of cookbooks, but all my favorite recipes come from the small magazines. They have ones for all chicken, all soup, all crocpot.... And although Jordan has the food pallette of a 5 year old, my twin 5 year olds eat almost everything I cook.

Seriously? Seriously...my favorite cookbook that I own...

I wish you MUCH luck Col in your life together! LOL I live with 5 males (including DH) who all have the palette of a 5 year old. I have tried everything to get them all to eat more things, but even though they are 16, 14, 10, 10, there is still not one single meal I can fix that everyone will eat. Except french toast. And believe me, I've tried all the tricks over the years. Many a night my kids went to bed without dinner.

I hope you find a cookbook that works for you!

That Disney cookbook looks great Lena, I might have to pick that one up!

My fave isn't technically a cookbook, it's the Kraft Food & Family magazine & it's free to subscribe!! I've been getting it for years so I have a ton of them and we've tried and liked a lot of recipes from the various issues! They aren't always the healthiest recipes, but usually you can make them healthier by substitutions and stuff. But they are very kid & husband friendly though!

How about an magazine subscription!?!? I highly recommend anything from Taste Of Home. I have gotten 2 of their magazine (Taste of Home and Simple and Delicious) for like 8 years and 90% of my meals come from those magazines!! They have one that's actually called Cooking for two and my mom gets it for her and my dad and she loves it!!

My favorite is Simple and Delicious...very easy meals, quick and "normal"....if you know what I mean!!! They have stuff that cooks in 10 minutes, stuff that cooks in 30 minutes, freezer meals, one pot meals and every issue has a 5 day meal plan that tells you everything you need to buy (and what it costs) to feed a family of "4" for 5 days!!! I use it a lot even though we have 6 in my family and it's easily adjustable...so you could totally work it to feed 2!!!!

If you really would like a "book", my DH got me one probably 10 years ago and I love it.....it's the plain and simple...tried and true Betty Crocker's Cookbook: Everything You Need to Know to Cook Today

It's a great all around everyday cookbook!!!

I am so in the same boat. I actually like to cook! All of my boys will eat baked chicken(I have a super easy recipe if you want) and steak. No sauces, so spices..... They will eat pasta with butter and plain rice, but don't you dare mix anything in with either of those starches....

I actually like using "How to Cook Everything" it really shows you how to cook the simplest meals and the simplest things. It's my go to book. Nothing fancy, just how to cook.

This is the only cookbook I constantly go back to. I swear by it and have given it as a gift so many times. It always has the answers I might be looking for, and its recipes have never disappointed.

hmmm you could be giving me the excuse to get my "hamburger" recipes typed up and in my own cookbook....want it when i'm through with it? It has hundreds of ground beef recipes in it...found quite a few that are really good that have become regulars on our table.

i get those Kraft magazines too! they are great and FREE!! i really want on of Rachel Rays cook books. my mouth waters when i watch her show!

Rachel Ray annoys the *^$(#()#$@ out of me.

YES Sharon! You would be my hero!! I literally have 30 pounds of ground beef in the freezer! We bought another cow this year to split with Jordan parents. It's a corn fed cow and the best beef ever. So we get TONS of ground beef from it and I can only eat so many effing tacos!! LOL!

Oh, I post recipes every Tuesday on my blog. Recipes we've tried and I won't say all of them Keira loves but there are a couple she loves.

I can't access my blog right now because I'm at work, but check my blog, there is a recipe index.

Some of the best with ground beef are
Bubble Up Pizza Casserole
Italian Casserole
Beef Strognaoff Casserole

I made what I called inside out stuff peppers the other day.

1 or 2 bell peppers diced
1 pound ground beef
2 cups cooked rice
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
salt & pepper

Cook ground beef & peppers. Add rice and tomato sauce, heat through. Serve!

Yep, this one, the original Betty Crocker one with the plaid cover and Taste of Home magazine, you simply can't go wrong.

I've a friend who comes from a family of four. If someone complained about what they had for dinner, her mom told them there's always peanut butter, lol.

Yeah, this is us, too. But it gets worse because I'm a vegetarian and DH wants meat. The 5 year old eats like DH and the 2 year old eats more like me. I cook veggie entrees and sides, and DH has to make the meat. Sometimes I will make a meat meal or a vegetarian meal that DH likes (like pasta or lasagna) and DH usually won't eat it because if it isn't one of his favorites he'd rather just make himself something. (And no it isn't because I'm a terrible cook.) It makes it hard to insist the kids eat what they're served, so we do the pb thing, too.

I haven't found a cookbook I love, but there are lots of kid-friendly recipes on the Kraft website. I get a lot of recipes for the kids from there.

I also have just a regular Betty Crocker cookbook, it looks different than the others the girls have shown, but it may be the same, I'm not sure.

Anyhoo, it has lots of recipes for "normal" meals, as well as a few other yummy things. There is a recipe for Italian Stuffed Mushrooms in mine, that are amazingly easy and so delish.

Good luck! I almost always make 2 meals at a time, because either Tony or the kids won't eat the same things.

Ok PM me your snail mail addy...and I'll get Stacy (pewtertm) to bug me to get all the recipes I want out of it typed up. I've been saying I need to...and now I have someone that will want the cookbook!

There is a fun recipe in there that the boys got the biggest kick out of...we don't care for meatloaf (dh does)...but basically it's like a meatloaf layered in a loaf pan with FRENCH FRIES! when you slice it you see the layers of meatloaf and french fries. The kids thought it was cool. They eat it with ketchup and dh eats it with cheese dip on it.
