Phone Avoidance..

I have never liked talking on the phone...I'd much rather email or IM. Even when I was a teenager (back before the web and IMs LOL), I had to be forced to call people, and if the phone rang, I tried not to answer it. Don't know why...but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

I love caller I.D. so I screen my calls on a need to talk to basis only. The only pet peeve I have with email is...my family always uses it when there is a problem best discussed person to person via by phone or face to face. It's easy to misunderstand the tone of an email.
Yeah, ITA! I don't like it when people use email or text to avoid a conversation that SHOULD happen on the phone or in person. There is so much opportunity for miscommunication.

I'm not much a phone talker at all! I don't mind doing it for business things (appts, customer service, etc) but I don't like calling people to "talk" or to ask them questions. In fact, I don't like answering the phone sometimes if I don't know why someone is calling! My sister is pretty much the only one I enjoy talking to on the phone.

Oh and I don't have a cell phone I can text on and don't think I would if I did. I do like email though!

so that's why you always have Darcy call when you are all coming to visit!! lol Although you sound so cute on the phone. hehehee

I am not a fan of the phone, after working at a call center for 3 years. I would rather txt, IM or email (whatever). But when I do get on the phone, with family or friends I rarely talk to, I tend to chatter. hehehee

i'm the same way. i'm shy and its hard for me, especially if i have a problem with something or need to complain. i'm just not a very forward person; i'm too nice! i'm better than i used to be, but i still avoid it at all costs and try to make DH do the hard stuff, lol.

I hate the phone.. a lot. it takes a lot to convince me to talk to someone on t he phone.. LOL I think reed nagged me for 3 days straight before I let her call me ^_^

Am I the only one that gets nervous talking on the phone? I do everything I can do avoid having to call people.. its ridiculous I know. I'm pretty shy with most people and I'd rather email or whatever instead of having to actually call and talk to someone.. just wondering if i'm the only lunatic here or if anyone else shares my fear. lol.

Me, too, and for the same reasons. I don't mine calling to order takeout or make a doctor's appointment, but talking to receptionists or cashiers in person doesn't make me shy either. It's calling people I know that's hard for me. DH hates the phone, too, but for different reasons. He makes me do all the answering, and if I'm not around he screens calls and only answers if it's me or work.

Yep, that's me to a T! My MIL loves talking on the phone and uses any excuse to call us, so if I have a problem or am out with her, she always says "well call them then" or "call him to tell him we're on our way home". I'm thinking, he doesn't need to know we're on our way home, he'll see us when we get there! I'm having problems with my laptop but I do NOT want to call them to figure out what the problem is...I e-mail as much as I possibly can.

I did NOT grow up in the computer/texting age, I grew up in the era of phones or face to face. Email is fast and instant, but I still like my cell phone for the things you just need to do that need a personal touch. I actually enjoy talking on the phone, lol.

Texting is a total mystery to me. Have noone to teach me and frankly, at ten cents a text, I'm not too keen on learning, lol.

LOL, I just learned how to text this past summer and at first I didn't do it much...maybe like 50 the first month. Soon I had to increase to 250 and just last month I had to upgrade again to 2750/month (the 250 I already pay for plus another 2500) with unlimited incoming. I text a LOT lol.

DUDE..not enjoying talking on the phone vs being afraid of the phone are two different things. I have no issues with fear and the phone. I can call CS or to order food or whatever just fine. Ya'll are weird :p

hahahaha

I'm STILL sad that K won't talk to me on the phone. She's mean!

Leeandra.. I don't remember us talking on the phone.. I remember webcam once but I don't remember a phone call.. are you sure?

bwhahahahaahahahaha! I am just remembering when few months ago when you posted this
Anyhow, I think 250 messages in a month is a LOT...I know DH and I would never even use that put together!

I am not really afraid to use the phone. Just don't like it and I tend to sound like an idiot. Like just now when I had to call the park district to ask about a program.

I will text all day and night!

But NO PHONES. No pizza ordering, no friendly chats, no phones. I don't answer it, and I don't call people. :p

I'm totally the same way. I hate talking on the phone. I always sound like a total dork and can't think of anything to say. :D

Sounds exactly like me with having to call and order food, actually last night I had to and it was like an outer body expierence LOL It just felt strange. We normally use Dominos online ordering most the time.

I'm so like you...I don't know why I avoid it, but once I start chatting, I don't know when to say bye. Weird!

Sarah! You're back! Missed you! Totally OT, but I need to reconnect with ppl. :)

I like to chat on the phone with Lena (not that I need to currently LOL) or other family members but I usually dread the phone otherwise. I hate making calls to the school or for appointments and such. My mind always goes blank as soon as the place I called answers the phone and I sound like a moron trying to figure out why I called them LOL! I've started just asking people to give me a moment since I get flustered on the phone :p!

yes. i feel that. jenny, i think what we are sensing here is some SSD social retardation. :D :p
I'm putting on my Mrs. Grover hat...this instant!
Lizzy-I need a 3 page paper from you immediately on what it really means to be Retarded...its a clinical diagnosis and I hate it to be thrown around in situations where it does not fit. :p
This is a for real consequence in my room for using the word retarded unless you are using it correctly.
Pajamas can be retarded, people can be retarded if their IQ is less than 80, but any assignment I give, any directive I give you, other children in my room...these things cannot be retarded ever.

I don't think my sweet Kristin or all the others are socially retarded, maybe socially shy is a better definition. :p

K-I don't mind the phone, I talked to my dear sweet Kellie just the other night and I wish she would call me back, because her voice is so sweet, and having her here on the same continent as me, a mere 8 hours away makes me feel so warm inside...and I have talked to Meghan on the phone as well...
My hubby however is like the rest of the men around here-hates it.
