my 4 year old is too smart. we've had to spell things out around here for a long time because he listens so intently and today I told Patrick he should T-A-K-E him (k) to G-E-T L-U-N-C-H and Karsten said "YAY I'm Hungry!" and started getting his shoes on.

:cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

LMAO...it sucks when they start figuring out how to spell. :D Karsten is pretty smart, though...Natalie is 4 and doesn't even know her letters yet, let alone how to spell, lol...Mason is just starting to figure out some of the words we spell out to eachother.

ha ha!!!

I was telling my 20 month old not to open the oven because it was hot. you know the "no no...hot" way you talk to a baby?

he put on an oven mitt...I swear it....and tried to pull it open.

as if now it were okay....

too smart I tell ya!!!

LOL! It's a bummer when you can't spell stuff anymore. Takes a lot of half phrases and eye contact with the hubby from here on out ;)

I think that's awesome. What a smart boy you have!!

Jeff's son is 6 and we can spell almost anything in front of him! *lol* He can't pay attention long enough to catch all the letters & then put them together in order to figure out the word.

LOL - too cute Traci. We can get away with spelling still except for McDonald's. He figured that one out really fast. Now we get really creative in what we call it; Golden Arches Cafe, Red and Yellow Express, Cardboard To-Go ... its a little game now.

lol, yah, it's a kinda sad day when you can't spell in front of them anymore.

I also have them reading the forums over my shoulder. :glare:

LOL K is a fast one... I can still spell a few words for Abby but not too many. One of J's first words when he finally started talking was Walmart. :D

We've had to resort to pig latin on a regular basis. Devin was spelling at 2½, JP around 5 (so, basically the same time). Devin's figured out the pig latin to some extent, but JP's still clueless. For Devin we throw out other words that mean the same as what we want to say. McDonald's is "the old farmer's place," spielplätz for playground (German word for it), library is bibliothèque. There are a bunch more that we'll use. It's quite comical to see us trying to come up with ways to talk about things in front of them. It's just easier to send them out of the room, lol!

My oldest didn't divulge he understood the spelling until one time I was spelling to dh what I wanted to get him for Christmas...and he says something like "yay I'm getting a blah blah blah"...we just looked at each other a second and then burst into laughter! Wish I had written that down on the calendar! Be sure to scrap that!!

Oh jeesh...half phrases and eye contact are totally LOST on my dh...most of the time he doesn't even catch on if I spell something...he's like "spell that again"...well by then all the ears in the house are on me!

Our dog knows what T-R-E-A-T is...F-O-O-D and C-H-I-P-S and depending on which one you spell...he will lead you to where that is stored! lol

I think my 4 year old is a mind reader. This morning I wispered something in my 7 yr olds ear then held up 3 fingers. I know she couldn't hear me, she was in the other room and yelled "what are you telling him, what are you sayinggggg" When she saw me hold up three fingers she ran right to the advent calendar. HOW did she know what I was talking about??
