Ok for those of us who've seen it now, tell us what you think!!

Well here's my recap :)

Overall, I loved it :)

However, it most definitely did not capture the essence of the love story, but I knew it wouldn't.

I thought some of the supporting actors (i.e. Jessica and teenage crew) were terrible actors, but they were funny anyway.

In the beginning I felt Rob overacted and there was a lot of cheese, but as the movie went on, he started to capture the essence of Edward :)

I felt, since the book is so detailed, that we were rushing through the story, but I understand that there's no way they could put everything in the movie.

Kristin seemed to capture Bella's quirkiness but I thought she fell flat on the lovey dovey part.

Some of the super zoomed in shots were over done.

And the first biology scene was pure comedy! I thought he looked like he was gonna poop or something! Definitely not how I would've acted it LOL!

All in all, I went in with loooow expectations so was pleasantly surprised...I had to scrape the cheesiness off my retinas some when I left though, LOL!!

I completely agree with everything that you wrote! It is all spot on! I was surprised overall that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Of course, it will never compare to the books but in the end I really enjoyed it!

How was Kristin's acting? I cringe every time I see a preview and her interview last night on David Letterman was painful to watch. I am worried her acting or lack there of is going to ruin this movie for me. lol

I actually thought she was better than Rob at times. Like I said up there, she overplayed the closed off part and didn't play up the loveydovey stuff enough for me, she always seemed a bit scared, which I guess works, but at some point she's not afraid anymore.

The worst actors were Jessica, Mike, Eric and all them...Tyler was terrible LOL

Oh yes! The group of friends were terrible! LOL!! But they did make me chuckle some! LOL!

I wasn't happy about Kristin being Bella but after watching it all she did a bit better than I expected.

That's good then. I wonder why they couldn't/didn't get big name Hollywood actors to play the parts. I mean the books are a HUGE hit. I would think a big budget blockbuster would have done really well??

Maybe they didn't have that budget..sure seems like they didn't. Also, I think Stephanie wanted unknowns so that they could fill the pictures in our heads?

Ya, that is what I meant. I wonder why they couldn't get the budget though, since the books were huge sellers. I have seen some pretty craptastic films givien huge budgets. This seemed like a sure thing, oh well, my mind works in mysterious ways and I have been wondering about it for awhile. lol

Well, I won't see it till Saturday. The reviews haven't been all that promising on line that's for sure, lol, with some comments that at least say there are some redeeming qualities to it. The money's spent, so we'll go see it,lol.
And seeing a movie made from a book is always a crap shoot. With the Harry Potter movies, the older the kids got in each progressive book, the less I liked the movies, because they left out so very much of the book. Now they've grown on me and I really enjoy them. But it's really hard to please ardent fans such as ourselves, lol. Maybe we'll look on this movie with some fondness as the years go on,lol.
After tomorrow night, I can let you know for sure what I thought of it :p

Overall I loved it too! I tried to go in with an open mind & not too high of expectations though.

I also thought the actors playing the teenage friends were not that great, but I felt they did a great job of adding to the humor aspect of the movie. I loved that they really played up the humorous parts of the story!

I also agree that Rob overacted in the beginning but as the movie went on he got more comfortable in the character and loved him as Edward. And most of the closeups were way overdone, also I felt they could have done a much better job on all the Cullen's makeup. It didn't look natural to me at all, especially on the closeup shots where you could tell it was really caked on. And you could tell they were wearing contacts on the closeups too, that could easily have been edited to make it much less obvious! And Edward's diamond dazzling effects totally could have used a bit of work too :D That was pretty cheesy lol!

My favorite scenes of the movie were when Edward was playing the piano & playing Bella's Lullaby (I got total goosebumps during that scene!), when they were in the forest & she confronted him about being a vampire, the baseball scene, the fight scene with James in the ballet studio & when they were at the prom!

I go next Friday, assuming it makes it to the theater here in East Malaysia. If not, I suppose I'll be forcing my brother to go with me while I'm home in December.

I'm going tonight so I will wait and see, I'm going with an open mind that's leaning towards loving it!!! I think they had a really low budget for the film, so I can understand how some of the effect may not be as good as expected because of what they had to work with. Maybe is this one is a huge success and they make another one, the budget will be better, the actors will have figured out their characters and it will be much better! Although Edward won't have much of a part!

Ok ~ So I also went in with TOTAL low expectations and Hating Rob for the part of Edward - He totally won me over (as the movie went on) -
Overall I liked it - but it does rate REALLY high on the cheese o meter
and what was up with the glitter - (They really needed to spend some on the special effects!)
I will say that Bella disappointed me - It was like she was strained the whole time but there were some good scenes - Like the prom ... and when they went home for dinner

I also think that the director was in my head - It is the ONLY movie from a book that I have read where location looked EXACTLY like I pictured it in my head - (except Edwards house)

Oh that was my other favorite scene - when Edward took Bella to his home for dinner! Rosalie's little hissy fit cracked me up lol!

Well I'm gonna be in the minority, but I didn't love it. I went in with an open mind knowing that it wouldn't be as good as the book. Don't get me wrong, I didn't HATE it, and I don't regret going. It was ok.

Personally, I wasn't a fan of the comedy aspect, and I *really* wish they'd played up the lovey dovey stuff more. I knew it was low budget, so I didn't have great expectations where the acting and effects were concerned. So I was ok there.

Overall, I'd give it 2.5 stars. Not a waste of time or anything. :) And the best part is definitely the soundtrack.. if you haven't already bought it, DO IT.

I love reading your reviews, because you are my friends LOL. I was planning to go on wednesday on my day out alone to shop, if I had time to go, but I have decided against it now after all I've read (not just here but everywhere). I will watch when it comes on dvd though. I didn't realize the movie was that low budget, so bad special effects and bad actors are a real turn off for me.

I enjoyed going but it certainly wasn't high quality acting.

I can't believe the director didn't rein in those actors a bit - Edward was seriously overacting in the beginning. A hard stare does not an actor make. Oy! Jasper was terrible - I mean seriously terrible. Same comment above on the hard stare - bug eyes do not communicate depth of character lol.

I was totally thrown by the asian guy in her group of friends - that wasn't how I pictured him at all. He was way too upbeat and quirky and I think was a sign of them trying to be trendy with their casting.

I actually thought Bella was great.

Dr. Cullen was really tough for me - he looked awful and not at all like I pictured him. Ya'll kind of dissed on Jessica but I thought that actress captured the shallow essence of her character - the well does not run deep with her kwim?

I enjoyed it but the book is sooo much better. My 14 yo niece on the other time says it is one of the best movies of all time. Yikes! LOL!

Really, Alice was the only one that resembled what I pictured in my head. When I saw Esme, I could only think of Grey's Anatomy.
They did not capture Edward at all in my opinion.
But, I am glad that I saw it, and I did enjoy it. The weirdest part was how they left these huge pauses-- focused in on the actors and there wasn't any dialog. It was almost as if they expected you to remember the book. I wondered what people would think if they hadn't read them. So overall it was fun to see the movie, but it could have been so much better!

I just got back from seeing it and loved it. Gotta agree the part with Edward in the sun was totally cheesy. It was hard to watch just cause I was in a theater of mostly teenagers and could have sworn I was at a Jonas Brothers concert or something. There was SOOOOOOOOOOO much screaming whenever a character came on screen, and it went through the whole movie!!! Definately need to see it again during an old fart showing!! LOL!!!

Just got home from the movie and I so totally agree with everyone....I liked the movie but was really hoping to be blown away and I wasn't---I wanted to love it as much as the book but I didn't......and I totally agree there needs to be an old fart showing LOL --I do think too many close, close, close ups was a bit irritating. when you can see the every pore on a humans face, makeup can not make his skin look porcelin, And yes some of it seemed rushed, but if they had left out the parts that wasn't in the book, like the bad vamps already being there and killing they could have spent more time developing the relationships --I think the actors did as well as could be expected with trying to tell so much story in so little time

(I finally bought all the books and soooooooo enjoyed them!!)
I loved it, but I have to agree with Traci that it seemed rushed. They seemed to try to pack large parts of the book into little bits. I tried getting dh's opinion on it as someone who hasn't read the books, and all I could get was that he liked it ok and he wanted to see more 'action'. I didn't like the sound effect that came with Edward standing in the sun...could have lived without that. I was expecting a bit more from that scene for sure. I really enjoyed the baseball, but the confrontation that came afterwards could have been a bit better. I could tell only half the theater had read the books, and the other half were just dragged along because of certain reactions, and laughter at some spots! lol-like you had to read the book to fully understand the character and appreciate some scenes. Overall, I did love it, just wish there had been more to it!!!

Did anyone else encounter total madness at the theater?! OMG, it was freakin crazy. Our theater didn't have a 12:01am showing, but by the time we got there for the last showing at 9:50 an hour early all shows had sold out all day long, so they added an extra showing at 10:50. So we got our tickets and waited in line for 2 freakin hours to get a decent seat! It was so freakin packed and crazy, and they had police there keeping everyone in line. Ugh, I'll buy my tickets early for the next one!!

this was exactly my thoughts, I loved these books so much ,I took my husband and kids..(none of them having read the books)
I knew it wouldn't be as good, but it fell so short in so many areas for me.
I left the theater apologizing to my husband. He told me he thought it was ok.was probably better cause they hadn't read them..

I thought the acting was way over the top, and the effects were bad!
sorry..I'm still totally bummed out!..lol!

Ditto your thoughts Traci Reed! Those were my thoughts too!

DH surprised me with tickets and on opening night their were lots of well... not 30 year old married couples... :) so there was lots of shout outs and ooohhhhs and ahhhs during the movie.

But I expected complete crap, so I too was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I didn't like was the extreme white makeup. Bella pale and realistic- they could have done that for Edward (Jasper and Carlisle especially).

At first when I heard the cast, I didn't like Pattinson, as the Edward in my head was way hotter... but I liked him after all (from certain angles more than others). I think it's the sexy confidence of Edward that I really like but oh well...

And DH... for taking initiative, calling me at work and telling me, "I'm taking you to a movie tonight. I've got the tickets and the sitter all set. We're going at 8:00" rather than asking me what I want to do... well... let's just say he's being rewarded! :p

Yes! Sign me up for an old fart showing! Ha ha!

Tabs and I are seeing it tomorrow....I hope the teenagers aren't there LOL. Old fart showing is what I'm hoping for.

Overall, I was a little disppointed. In my mind, the Harry Potter-fied the movie. Meaning, they cut dialog in order to get more scenes in and they lost too much important story in the process. I realize that some things have to be lost in the translation, but I just felt like too much was cut, the relationship wasn't established enough for me.

There were scenes that I really liked, but I like them because in my head, I was applying them to the book. I think the movie on it's own was very jumpy and flat.

I was okay for the most part with the actors chosen, except Jasper, who I thought was absolutely horrendous. I liked Bella and Edward though, which sort of surprised me because I really didn't think I was doing to like her as Bella.

I really liked it,lol. I went in there, knowing what you all had said and what I read in the online reviews. There's always going to be plot lines and such left out simply because of time constraints and as avid fans we're bound to be disappointed because scenes were left out.
The makeup I didn't find that bad. I really watched for it and face it, how else are you going to make them that pale, lol? It could've been better but I've seen a LOT worse, lol.
My dh went with me and he actually enjoyed the movie. He got what was going on without having read anything at all. I'd never even told him anything about it.
As for the teens in the movie, i thought they were just acting like kids, just way over done. They were trying too hard.
I really enjoyed it. Nothing is ever gonna be "perfect" :p. I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.

I was really disappointed by Edward in the beginning, he was way over acting, especially in the biology scene when he first smells her. That was bad. I also didn't dig the glitter, I had wondered how they would do that part, but at first he just looked sweaty. Carlisle's make-up was too heavy. He must be pale to begin with. I was a bit disappointed with how minor of characters the rest of the Cullen's were and how easy it was for Bella to escape Alice and Jasper. BTW, was anyone else horribly bothered by Jasper's hair?!?! I was also dissapointed they didn't do up the whole over the top in love thing much, had I not read the books I am not sure I would have understood how in love they were. It did get better by the end, but I wish it had been a bit better. Hoping New Moon will get a bigger budget and thus be better.

I liked the movie, but it could have been more in-depth if they had made it longer. If I hadn't have read the books, it would've been a good movie, but I wouldn't have felt about the movie like the way I feel about the books. They didn't give enough time for Edward and Bella to really fall in love, so it seemed weird when she said she was totally in love with him and he said that she is his life now. It only seemed like it all took place within like 3 days or something.

Oh yeah, and Rosalie totally wasn't right for the part, Jasper is way cuter than I thought he was and the whole family didn't get enough film time...you don't get a sense of what they are really like. Jasper had like 4 words in the whole thing!

Overall, I really liked it and I'm sure the budget will be better with the others so I will love them too. If I hadn't have read the books though, I probably would have liked the movie, but not wanted to have spent $9 at the theater to see it.
