Affordable, yet meaningful teacher gift?

My son is in the first grade and he has had a long-term sub since the third week of school (his teacher had a baby). The sub, Mrs. Smith was his classroom aide in kindergarten last year so we've known her for a while and she's wonderful. Her and I have actually become friends and I want to give her some sort of going-away gift.
The kids are making her a scrapbook thing to give her and are throwing her a little party after school.
I don't think I'll have time to do anything hybrid, but I'd like to do something special because she's been so good to Cameron this year.

Any suggestions?

In the past when I've seen threads about teacher gifts, many teachers said they treasured personal letters the most.

Yup. I second the letter. I taught school for 3 years, and out of all the gifts I got, I still have the letters filed away. I even pull them out every once in awhile to read when I need a boost of happiness.

go to one of those stores which personalize stuff and get her a paperweight for her desk with something personalized.

A coffee mug filled with her favorite candy and some cute saying about being a teacher

a t-shirt and have the kids all put their handprints on it and write their names in the handprints (she might not wear it but I bet she keeps it for a long time)

a letter with a small gift card to get some sort of special pampering treat

a book with a personalized message inside

a pretty picture frame with a photo of the class in it

a photo christmas ornament like they have at hallmark which records messages and you could have the class record a special message

No suggestions since I am wondering what to get my daughters teacher, but just had to mention that my daughter is in grade 1, she has a sub because her teacher is giving birth next month, and her teacher last year was Mrs. Smith. LOL

As I teacher, I second these. The personal letters are THE best, but a little food never hurts either! oiu could easily and inexpensively do both.

My ALL TIME FAVORITE gift was a decorated clipboard. The back is decorated with my name. I use it EVERYDAY!!!!!! One of my students made it for me nearly 6 years ago.
