Homemade gingerbread for gingerbread houses?

So, Dh and I decided we're going to have a little Christmas party next month with a few families and we thought it'd be fun to make our own gingerbread houses... does anyone have a good recipe they have used? And no, I don't want to just use graham crackers and it would be too expensive to buy enough kits (which is what we usually do)!
