Question for Twilight readers....

I have never read the series, and I honestly don't plan too. I am wonder though if it is appropriate for "younger" readers ... like preteen age?
 
I think the first three would be okay. Breaking Dawn.. I don't know.

IDK, I think they wouldn't like it, it's kinda grown up and somewhat mushy
 
Maybe the first one. I'm not sure about the others. I gave Twilight to my 14 year old niece after her Mom said it was OK. But, I'm not sure if I would go younger than that. There are some more adult themes as the series moves along, IMHO.
 
my 9 year old is finally reading the Harry Potter series on her own, not ready to introduce Twilight to her just yet. A little too much grown up content for her at this age. Now my 13 year old - yeah, if he wanted to read it, I wouldn't stop him.

I think the first 3 books are okay for 13-14yo's and older, Breaking Dawn is bit more adult in nature just because of some of the situations the characters deal with. But if they are pretty mature for their age they would probably be okay reading it too.

this is why I asked ....

On Sunday night I went to drop my daughter off before my son and I headed to musical practice. The couple that watch her are the Children's Minister at my church. They have 2 older sons, the oldest is in 8th or 9th grade I believe. Definitely in the "preteen" age range.

Anyway .... I saw the book on the couch and I asked who was reading it out of curiousity. I was shocked when the older son said he was. The Father then asked me what it was about and why I asked. I briefly explained the larger following of women here reading the book, and that I was avoiding the peer pressure because it wasn't my style. I told him from what I heard it was a book about vampires and had a love story.

When I went to pick Ellie up the mom mentioned she had read thru the first chapter to see what she thought of the book. She thought it was very "teen"ish in her opinion and that they decided to let the son decide if the book was appropriate.

It was just odd to know that a young boy is reading a book like that after reading all of your comments. KWIM??
 
I would have to say I would probably let my 13yr old or older read them...
the "mature" stuff was probably what I would equate to being on a soap.

Not sure if they make that one into a movie that it might involve more ... =)

on a boy reading... well given the men in the book and what they do I would think it might interest them! I would think it was weird if my son wanted to read it (later that is) LOL
 
My 14 year old loved them all. My 12 year old has only read the first one, but she liked it.
 
My dd is in 7th grade and most of her class has read Twilight and are moving on to the 2nd one. I am ok with the first 2 and maybe the 3rd but I am on the fence regarding the last one - we will see how far she gets into it.
 
I'd say Twilight sure it's safe for preteens. the rest of the books I'm not sure, as there are occasional bloodiness. (Breaking Dawn in particular has a gory scene I know I wouldn't want my kid to read)

My 16 yr old son said his GF is trying to convince him to read it. Of course it took him 6 months to read the last book he started so who knows if he will actually read this - but so far I haven't seen anything I would feel bad about him reading.
