Who actually keeps up with organizing and how???

When I'm at the computer, I want to browse forums or scrap. I don't want to sit and organize. But I need/want to for so many reasons! I know I still have great products I haven't used and I keep needing specific things and it takes me awhile to find it. Sadly, It has probably been a year since I last organized for real. I got so caught up with CT stuff and didn't feel the need to organize that when I was mostly just using whole kits for layouts.

Anyway... I just can't make myself do it! blah! How do you keep it up?

I do it as I unzip it. I just do it. It's the only way I can keep up with it, else I'll let it pile up, and then I get really pissy about having to do it.

Me too...when I unzip it all goes to my "to sort" folder. Then I go through and organize and copy anything to my elements folder I think I may use again..then it all goes to my "to scrap" folder where it stays until I've used each item I've purchased at least 2 times...this way I feel like I'm getting my money's worth kwim?

What Darcy said. If I'm not going to tag it, I don't unzip it. Eventually I want to use it, so I have to tag it. LOL

I normally do my organizing after I've used a kit. I have it in my "to scrap with" folder until it's been used and then before I move it to the designers folder, I sort it.

I use Cindy's system and what I've also started doing is only tagging the things that I KNOW I will use again.

I took the time two months ago and did it the Gina Miller Style ( i think Cindy's similar, not sure) and also i have a Recent Download folder i put stuff in to use before i put it in the right folder.

and i always unzip right after dl

Well you guys are just good. :)

I use ACDSee and love it, but I think I have too many categories that don't work for me and ones that are too specific. If it was broader, it'd be SO much easier.... then I could divide it more later if I felt the need. The obviously solution would be to adapt it for me. :) So uhh, I need to get on that!

I organize by designer then kit and also by categories using the Gina Miller method and aliases. I keep everything I download in my downloads folder and move it all to the appropriate areas every Saturday when I DVD backup.

I have been terribly slacky about organizing too. I just tag things randomly here and there. I've been just unzipping to a New Kits folder so I basically scrap from there.

I put new things in a folder together, and they stay there for a while. (I do use them while they're there.) When I have no mojo or there's nothing going on in the forums, I spend an evening organizing and backing up instead. I probably do it every 6 weeks or so. I organize with folders instead of ACDSee (So Gina Miller style), and only things I'll use again get organized. If I go through a kit and find 10 elements I'll use separately from the kit and 10 I won't, the 10 I won't don't get organized, just kept with the kit.

I have a schedule. I tag & sort stuff on Sundays. I unzip stuff I have bought during the week to an 'untagged' folder and I use it from there until Sunday. On Sunday I sit down and tag everything in the folder, move the stuff to it's appropriate locations & then I am free to scrap more. But no scrapping on Sunday until the untagged folder is empty. No shopping on Sunday either.

I was doing it as I unzipped until my drive died and I love everything that was tagged, since then I never started over so the only thing I do is organize by store, then designer, then kit. I just don't want to start over!

I do it like Darcy said...unzip and organize immediately. Now on that same thought...I'm a little behind because my laptop is BACK in the shop after about an hour at home. I've at least unzipped and put them in a download folder...but that will mean I will have prob a whole day of organizing to do if i don't get it back before sweet rewards time!

I JUST started in the last month reorganizing my "templates" folder...boy what a job that is! I had everything in the folder ... by designer. ...but it was taking me forever to find the perfect 5 picture template...so my friend Stacy, pewtertm, recommended that I organize it by # of pictures that can fit on a template...and to rename the templates and their jpg with the name of the designer so I could still credit the template designer. ...so...i've been doing a lot of that since my laptop has been in the shop because my son's laptop is a LOT slower than mine is. ...so I am making progress...and it has been faster to find the templates I want to use! Thanks Stacy!!!

I have a couple of ways of organizing. When I first download and unzip, it goes either to my Sweet Shoppe new release folder or to my New Downloads folder (if it's not Sweet Shoppe). Once I've used them at least once (if not more), I break them out into category folders (such as paper, buttons, etc.), some of which are broken out further by designer or style, although a few theme kits I keep in a theme kit folder. I do that second organization every once in a while, usually when my scrapping mojo is low. Sometimes puts it back in gear...

Sharon Kay - I organize my templates by number of pictures too, except for brag book templates.

I kind of do it this way. I unzip to a Needs tagged Folder and then once a week I tag the kits in there and then it gets moved to my Needs backed up folder. Where it usually sits for a few weeks till it's burned to DVD and then I move it to it's appropriate folder.

The only exception to that "rule" is usually alphas, paper packs and individual element packs (like a whole pack of buttons or a whole pack of ribbons) get tagged right away because they all go in the same category and it takes like 2 seconds.

Kit have to wait till G-man is in bed because I'm almost always holding him and he likes to bat my keyboard way to bad and you wouldn't believe where he has sent some of my elements!!! :D :D

I'm not good at organizing. It needs to be done badly, though...I'm going to reread all the suggestions b/c they'll help me, too!

I hate to move things around too much because I find it's more work (and more chance of losing or corrupting things), so I just download all my SSD zip files to my SSD folder. Then when I'm ready to unzip it, I unzip it directly to that designer's subfolder and tag it right then.

I admit that there are times when I'm in a hurry to scrap with a kit and don't have time to tag it. So, my "reminder" is that I don't erase the original zip file until I've tagged the kit. So when I see that bright red zip file in ACDSee, I know I've still gotta go tag that kit.

To make sure that I can locate my "new" stuff that I haven't scrapped yet, I have a separate tag in ACDSee called "To Scrap". I just tag the preview of the kit with that tag. That way, I can just hit one button and see all the kits I haven't used yet.

Thats how I do it... so much easier! I HATE going to hit Edit and nothing happens... then I realized I moved my file and ACDSee can't find it anymore. Gah, thats annoying!!

I LOVE this! I'm going to make a To Scrap folder right now! Thanks for sharing that tip!

I love this too...gonna have to work on tagging even the old stuff I haven't scrapped with yet!!

I have ACDsee and I love it, but I've hardly used it. I'm trying to convince myself to take the rest of the year off from all but hybrid (gift) projects and CT requirements in an order to spend my time organizing so I can start back in Jan on a fresh and organized slate. Self isn't so sure she can go that long

I tag as I unzip too. I learned the hard way after letting it go for a few weeks and buying quite a few kits in that time. When I sat down to do it, the organizing took forever. I swore never to do that again. :p I usually tag on Sundays too since I usually have new releases to do. :)

I keep a separate folder for when I unzip brand new products. I leave them in that folder until I have used the product, that way I am sure to use what I have an not forget about it later. I can only stand that folder to get sooo big before it drives me crazy, LOL, so every couple weeks I file everything that I have used, away where they go. Sticking with it regularly makes the task a little quicker.

Oh all of you organised people are making me :o my organising is shockingly bad I kind of started with a fairly good system download to the desktop, move to a file, unzip them and then everything to it's designer folder. Then I was tagging a designer folder or two every day. Then I kind of got behind and now I have complete and utter chaos. I do have a firm rule where I tag everything I have used in a layout and move it to the sorted folder and when I feel uninspired or depressed (quite often) I sit and just tag stuff, I like the mindless action of doing it. But it's a big job last month I got quite a bit of organising done, but there's still nothing resembling order on my machine. I'm content as long as my wordart is tagged in ACDSee (I add whatever it says to the notes section in ACDSee) and I can usually find something that works between searching in ACDSee and searching in the Windows search thing. Since I am in a confessing mood I may as well admit that quite often I rely on the store here and the product gallery at DST to find what I need for a layout and then I search my system for it most of the time this works :p Hugs Crystal xx

I started getting overwhelmed as soon as I started downloading kits so ACDSee was one of those things I got right into. I tag stuff as I unzip generally and so I've been really pleased that I've kept up. I like what you all have done with your "used" and "unused" stuff and I may have to try that. It seems that my "previews" folder is getting so big that it takes longer and longer to scan through it to see what I want to use.

only move stuff IN Acdsee!

the tip about tagging templates with number of pics is brilliant.
