Rounded Edges in PSE??

anyone? i'm getting really fussy over here trying to figure it out and i don't like the rounded rectangle cookie cutter tool.

When you click on the shape tool, is there not a rounded rectangle in there (where you choose between rectangle, circle, etc)? I'm trying to remember...lol...

The other option you have is to create 4 circles so that the outer edge is the size you'd like your curve to be...then create rectangles between them and fill in the center with another rectangle...then merge them all.

IM me if that didn't make sense, lol...I can screenshot you what I mean. :)

She has rounded corner brushes for you to download. What I do is create a new layer above the paper whose corners need rounding, and I stamp the brush on that layer, then i line it up with the paper so that it's perfect and merge down. then I use my magic want to highlight the brush and hit delete. that way all my edges are the same and i don't cut the paper on accident. then i just stamp a new layer and then turn it 90 degrees and repeat the process with each corner.

I also use Jessica Sprague's rounded corner brush, but I load it as a brush, and then just use my eraser as a brush and stamp it over my object. The .ABR file has all four rounded corners loaded.

I don't know about PSE, but in CS3, there is a way to change the shape tool, so the rounded corner can be whatever degree you want it to be. So if you want super rounded corners you can, or less so.

Yea you change the radius of the curve. I'm surprised PSE doesn't have that for it's rounded rectangle.

That's exactly what I do too :)

The thing that annoys me about the rounded rectangle is that the corners aren't all the same. I'll ahve to check out Jessica's brush.

What I have done before is used the rounded square and then cut it apart and make it longer (like a rectangle) to get the good the edges.

i use PSE 6 and i agree that the shape tool isn't always what i want. but what i like to do is hold down the shift key (so it stays square and symetrical). then if i need it to be like a rectangle instead of a square, i'll just duplicate and line them up til i get it how i want then merge them. that's how i cut my rounded edges. don't know if it makes sense or not, lol.

Oh yeah, I do it that way too! I guess I do it a couple ways. I don't really use it much though. :)

Yup, that's what I use too, I don't know any other way to do it

wish it did make sense...sounds like that would be a good option.

She means make yourself a rounded square. Then duplicate it, make your edges line up, and then move it down or to the side, so that it forms a rectangle the size you want, and then merge the 2 layers together.

So if you wanted a vertical rectangle, make your square the width you want the rectangle to be. Duplicate it. Then I would use my arrow keys and push the down arrow, until the duplicate square made the shape the height that you want the rectangle to be. Then merge them together.

hehe, sorry. here. i did screen shots!!

choose your weapon, lol

it helps to hold shift down, like when you resize things, to keep the proportions.

you can duplicat it how many times you need to get the size and dimensions right. i just did it once here. you could duplicate this after you merge and move them together to make it wider or longer.

i don't think i mentioned it before to use it as a clipping mask. is that why you were lost?? lol. sorry!
