yesterday my 18 month old got his shots and he didnt get a fever or anything, and he doesnt fall into the "severe" reaction category. but his legs hurt so bad he cant walk, stand or even have me carry him.

the doc hasnt called me back yet...she is terrible about that.

this has never happened to him or to my 4 yr old...anyone elses child ever react this way?

other than a fever nothing like this has ever happened. I would just keep calling every hour till I got a response. You coud also ask for a nurse to call you back too. Good luck!

My daughter had a reaction to the dtap.. but not like that. Her leg swelled up.. and she's allergic to the pertussis part of the shot.. but.. I would keep calling your doctor.. that's crazy that they haven't called you back yet.

I know my kids have complained about their leg hurting, but i don't think to that extent. I would keep trying to get ahold of someone just to be safe.

When I took my girls in they did warm me that that could happen, but it never did. We never really had any side effects, though, so I can't help! I hope your dr gets back with you soon, and hope the little guy gets better fast! (hugs)

If it was me, I would pack my child up and drive back into the doc's office and tell them I am not leaving until I see the doctor. That is not normal. I have never heard of that type of reaction before. Good luck sweetie. Hope you can get some answers.

That happened with my daughter's 2 year shots. She had sore legs for almost two days, poor thing, and wanted to be carried EVERYWHERE. She slept a LOT too. I gave her motrin and let her sleep as much as she needed to, and she got over it by the third day. Our Ped. said it is normal to have some pain in the legs, or tiredness...

I babysit two other kids and I don't have carseats for all of them!

No, but here we have nurses administer the shots and they tell us how much Tylenol we can give our kids. They told us they can have pain for about 2 days afterwards. If your child is in pain, give him Tylenol. If the pain persists for more than 2 days, then I'd get worried.

Did your little one happen to have several shots in the legs at once? We took Andy in recently and "caught him up" on several vacs at once and later in the evening he couldn't walk without screaming in pain. It was terrifying but when I was rational about it, he had just had multiple injections in his little thighs and that would hurt anyone. Sooo, I sat him down in front of the TV with his legs out in front of him and put a cold wash cloth with an ice cube or two folded inside on each leg. He chilled like that for hours and was just fine the next morning.

Hope your little one is doing better soon.

yep...mason had this when he had 2 or 3 shots in one leg a year or so ago. :( he flipped out cause he couldn't walk and his legs were warm to the touch. we did what robin said and he was good to go the next day. cozy him up on the couch, make it fun for him and special and make sure to do ibuprofen instead of tylenol. helps with the inflammation. poor guy! :(

Mine never had anything more than a little bump in the spot. Rae had a fever after one of hers, but that was all the reactions any of them had.

I hope it eases up, and you figure out what's up!

Is there a lump at the injection shot? Was it the MMR shot? If so then probably what happened is all the "medicine" is stuck in the deep muscle tissue of your sons thigh and it's created like a "inside" bruise. What your doctor should have told you to do is as soon as he got the shot you should have massaged that area off and on for the next 24 hours so that all that "medicine" gets flowing to all the little capillaries and such within the muscle and whisked away!!

Until the doc calls you back I would alternate between a warm and cool compress on his leg...you need to do the warm to help get the blood flowing to that spot so it can carry all that nasty junk away from the injection site and you need the cool to help easy his pain. I would as alternate the Tylenol/motrin cocktail (give one and then 3 hours later give the other and repeat) until the pain is gone.

Hope you hear from the doc soon and your little guy is all better quickly!!!

DS1 just had 3 shots yeaterday to catch him up on his for school. (our delayed vax schedule was a bit too delayed....) He's been limping around since last night. The doc warned me that might happed & he might be sore for a couple of days. They didn't mention the massage, I wish they had. I keep asking him if he wants some pain meds but he says it doesn't hurt that bad, then goes back to limping.
Not sure if he is being manly about the pain or exaggering the limp.

As the doc calls me back and tells me that this is a reaction that a small percent of kids can have...he's up and walking.

Glad to read that your little one is feeling better and is up walking around....

My Grandson went for shorts, I think it was his 18 month shots and one of the two Nurses that "tag teamed" him for the shots gave him the wrong shot....She gave him that Gardasil shot! I was with my Daughter and believe me, between the two of us, they didn't know if they were coming or going....After that, we told them we did not want either of those two Nurses to tend to him again....

Poor little bug. Really, try some baby motrin, Yorick's legs usually hurt when he gets his shots, too, that's why we space them out so he only gets one at a time.

We did contact an Attorney, but were told that it would be very, very hard to sue them since nothing "happened to my Grandson"....The Doctor's Office called the Manufacturer of the Gardasil shot, called us at home to check on Diondré, had him come in for a re-check the next day and had the "head Nurse" tell us that both Nurses were reprimanded....We were thinking BIG DEAL! This could have all been avoided had the 2 Nurses NOT be discussing their weekend and focused on giving my Grandson his shots....I guess I'm somewhat thankful that the Nurse admitted she gave him this shot, otherwise we would not have known at all....We insisted that they record (so we would have it in writing) that they gave him the Gardasil shot in his shot records--incase....

my daughter gets really sore... motrin & tylenol with warm compresses, lots of snuggles & ice cream really help, too! :) glad he's up moving again!

This happened to me once when I was getting my kindergarten shots. I have never had any other sort of reaction to shots.
