I'm switching to Firefox- what do I need?

Julie Billingsley

The Ghost of Awesome Past
After weeks of problems with Internet Explorer with it suddenly refusing to open popups or go to a link or even show the darn toolbar  I have now decided to finally make the switch to Firefox in hopes that it will be nicer to me. But I'm drowning in a million add-ons and I don't know what I need and I don't have the time to weed through them. So, what do you have and love? Make me love Firefox, because I'm sure hating IE right now.

Also, does anyone know how to make Firefox import my Google Bookmarks?

I switched earlier this summer and love firefox. I'm not sure which add-ons I've got, but I'll check. Much easier with FF- no poop-ups so far and faster too!

i have
Measure It (for measuring)
Colorzilla (for picking up color codes)
Morning Coffee (it opens up whatever websites you choose with one click, so I have it set up to open up all my CT forums, google reader, etc)
Facebook Toolbar (Leeandra was so right, this is so awesome if you use FB)
Kaboodle
IE Tab (so you can use IE to view those websites that don't work properly in Firefox w/o having to open up IE)
FireFTP

i luuuuurve Firefox!

i have
Down It All - which downloads files
and one that fills in forms for me but I can't remember what that one's called. It's awesome, though, if you buy a lot of things online.

My favorites:
Download Status Bar - shows the progress of all your downloads along the bottom of the browser, great for downloading scrap stuff

Session Manager
- saves any tabs or windows you have open after a crash or close of the browser

Taboo - This is my most recent find and one of my favorite add-ons of all time. It allows you to save a screenshot of any tab for later use, kind of like a fancy bookmark. Fantastic if you're like me and want to find a page you were looking at later on.

I only have the Kaboodle & Facebook add-ons.

The FB add-on kinda makes you feel like a stalker... but in a good way. You will know INSTANTANEOUSLY when anyone does anything on FB: creates a photo album, changes their status msg, becomes your friend, leaves you a comment, etc.

I've been using FF for the last two years, J, and sometimes I forget I'm not using a 'standard' browser. I have had a couple issues with an employment application program not working properly in FF, but otherwise, all my uploading and downloading for scrapping, Paypal, etc. works beautifully.

Dude.. there's a facebook add on for FF? Gah. How did I not know about this, Miss LeeAndra???? :p

Julie, I have colorful tabs, morning coffee, IE View, DownThem All, Grease Monkey and some others I'm forgetting right now but can tell you about when I get home. LOL

Thanks for the recs so far! I'll be checking those out! So far I'm NOT loving that it doesn't pop up the first sentence of the topic here at SSD. In IE I can just hover over the thread title and it popups the first sentence so I know if I want to open a thread, but in Firefox it doesn't show anything. :( Is there something to make it do that? I liked that in IE.

It does that for me Julie. I have to wait a little longer but I get the first sentence. I know it does not work in all forums.

I have colorful tabs, permatabs and forecastfox.

Hmm that is weird, I have been using FF for a while now and it pops up the first sentence for me. I also use colorful tabs, IE Tab, morning coffee, etc.

Julie, it should...I've used FireFox for years and I always hover over the threads to see the first sentence. I've got the newest version, as well, because of my reformat a few weeks ago.

Here are a few of the add-on's I looove:

Download Status Bar
Session Manager (which doesn't work for the latest version yet)
Minimize To Tray (again, doesn't work for the latest version yet)
IE Tab
FireFTP (since I can't use SmartFTP anymore, even though I bought it, I don't have the email with my code in it, so ugh...)
Adblock Plus (makes DST run MUCH faster, lol...when I go there, that is)
Morning Coffee
Fast Dial (this one is cool...you open a tab and you can choose between sites that you set up to go to quickly)
URL Fixer (will fix urls if you mis-spell them or they go wonky when you click on them)
Reminder Fox (you set up reminders and to-do lists and it reminds you every 2 hours of what you've got on your list)

I've got a WHOLE bunch of others, I lost them all with my reformat, that I need to get back. I had a web developer one for working on websites, color picker, I can't even remember half of them, lol.

Julie, I don't get the first sentence preview either. I've been using FF for over a year now, and that's the only drawback for me.

As for add ons, I use colorful tabs and foxytunes. I have others, but really only use those two.

Now playing: Come Fly With Me - Michael Bubl
via FoxyTunes

That's really weird that you can't get those sentence previews in your browsers...REALLY weird, cause it has worked for me in every version I've used.

Maybe there is a setting somewhere that is blocking it? Maybe the default cookies are set too high?

I've never had the hover thing not work for me either, that's totally weird.

I've used FF for what seems like forever. Pretty sure since I was in college (which was 3+ years ago).

I have colorful tabs, permatab, and kaboodle (which I never use cuz I have the worst willpower EVER).

I can see it in mine, Julie. I didn't need a thing to do that. Isn't there always something, I swear, lol.
I LOVE Firefox. And darn you all for suggesting ever more fantastic add-ons :p
Only thing I use IE for is msn and games. You can't play games on firefox in either yahoo or msn.

You might be able to play them if you install the IE Tab add-on, it displays pages as if you're in IE, so maybe it makes sites believe that you're using IE? It's worth a try...

I just feel that Firefox is faster and cleaner. AND is much safer. I don't hate IE, just love Firefox, lol.

I love FF too :)

I have YouPlayer just click it and you can search you tube and watch videos w/out having to go to youtube lol I lvoe it!!
