Two dogs to give away! :( I am FUROUS!

UGH UGH UGH! We have two dogs, both are still sorta considered "puppies", one is 7 months old, the other is probably 14 months old or so, but they are both big dogs. One is a lab and the other is some kind of german shepherd. They are always and forever getting into the trash and anything left anywhere near them is fair game to be chewed. So guess what they got to today? my brand new $150 tent that we have only used for one weekend! AARGGGGGGGGGGH! I literally cried. We have a camping trip planned this weekend and now my DH is on his way back to Sam's club to buy a new one. That $150 could have been put to so many other uses. They are just so destructive, seems like every time I turn around something else has been destroyed. The clincher is, my dh had put the tent WAY up in the garage when we got back from our last trip, one of the kids messed with it and got it down and left the case unzipped. It had a really nice heavy canvas case and had it been zipped properly this would not have happened. I feel like putting my kids and the dogs on the side of the road with a sign that says "will work for tent money". :( I know I probably sound like the worst mom ever, but we were scrimping to go on this trip as it was but we had planned to rent a canoe for the boys and all kinds of fun stuff we don't normally get to do.

I know this is rambling long but we normally take this other family with us camping. They are very poor, don't ever have any extra cash, etc and I usually end up footing the entire bill, groceries and all (and I don't usually mind too bad) but this time was supposed to be JUST our family and we were going to do some special things that we can't do when we have them with us and now we are lucky to even be able to go still :( I know I sound whiney. I'll get over it I know and have a good time anyway, but it sure is nice to have a place to vent!

anyone know where I can pick up some cheap muzzles? ROFL

Crate your dogs when you can't surpervise them. Then they can't chew anything.

I'm sorry they got into your tent. Sucks to have to go buy another one, especially since that one was brand new.

they are puppies...esp lab breeds, that's what they do..Our Aussie was a destroyer when he was small but the crate and obedience class helped lol..he's still a mess (he's 2) but no where near as destructive now..only thing he messes with are the blinds if i forget to raise them so he can see outside he will shove his head thru there and a thing eventually tears off.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, it really can't be blamed on the dogs no matter how much I would like to because my SON let them out of their crates, lol. They have free run of our fenced in back yard and when they are not in the yard they are supposed to be in the crates. Jake decided he wanted to play with Brownie (the youngest one, the lab) and had him in the garage and POOF, got distracted, went to play with his friends and left the dog uncrated. AND he never asked permission to get the dogs out in the first place. Maybe it should just be the kids on the side of the road but dang it, the dogs are cuter and would draw more attention! LOL

I completely understand how you feel. We had gotten Kim a puppy for her birthday last summer and after 6+ months of coming home to a mess EVERYDAY!!!! If we kenneled her she would move the kennel till she could get to something and pull it through the sides of the kennel, she finally broke the kennel and hurt herself trying to get out. If we didn't she would destroy whatever she could and she thought my living room was the toilet. She even decided my bed was the toilet one day. I finally had enough and decided to find her a new home but unfortunately (well I know this sounds awful but maybe not so unfortunately) she got hit by a car.

Now we have a kitten and she's the best thing ever. Not one single accident and she's doesn't tear stuff up either.

Amy!!!!!!! If you haven't bought a tent yet, i've got 2 you can borrow!! They're smaller 2/3 person tents but they're free for the using!! PM if you need them

Awww Amy, that stinks! We had a really horrible dog experience a few years ago and I literally wanted to rip my hair out because I was so upset with our dog. He got into everything, chewed everything and was just insanely hyper. We finally decided that we just couldn't handle it anymore and through our vet, we found him a new home. I felt so bad doing it, but I knew that it was the best thing for him to be with a couple that didn't have small children and had more time.

LOL, NOT suggesting you give yours away, just saying that I've been there and I know how mad you can get! HUGS!

I know how destructive dogs can be, but this is just a curiousity question. Do they get out and get alot of exercise, or are they cooped up all day? I know that until I got my dogs out and played fetch and pretty much wore then out, they chewed up things and got in to stuff they should not have.

Dogs need to release energy and sometimes, it is in the form of chewing your brand new tent, or in my case, a bunch of DVD's. I would try getting them out to play, especially since they are young dogs, before getting rid of them.

We have a fenced in back yard and they have freeeeee reign of the whole yard all day every day. We usually only crate them at night or if we need to go back and forth from the garage to the yard (there's a doggie door in the garage so we can't leave it open if they are in there). So they should have more than ample exercise. But I know exactly what you mean. My sister's dog is crated all day every day and comes in the house to lay in the living room in the evenings but never gets ANY exercise, so the first time the door opens she's gone and the whole neighborhood has to go looking for her (guess who lives around the corner? lol ya me!) And I'm not seriously going to get rid of 'em. They are too dear to me and today really wasn't their fault but oooooooh maybe someone will take the kids? LOL Nah I guess that won't work either, rofl

A tired dog is a good dog.
Just wanted to say that even though they have a yard to play in, they still might not be getting enough exercise to tire themselves out. A good walk in the morning or the evening will really help with that.

oh poop!! that totally blows, amy! honestly, i LOVE dogs but with 3 kiddos running around here i know that a pup in my house would not get the attention it deserves and would end up tearing my stuff up and i really would set them all out at the curb!! LOL!! so sorry that happened. DANGIT!!!!

k...on the count of 3 your gonna let out a final scream of frustration...then you have to move on. ready...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

feel better? did you even do it. :p

Lock 'em up and throw away the key! At least when you're not home, that is. We crated our dogs till they were at least a year old, just couldn't trust them till then, no matter how many toys you leave around they always manage to find something that they'd rather chew on, especially things that you need. They're excellent at that!

Awe Amy I am sorry about that! I had a greyhound that I rescued before I had my son....she was the sweetest girl ever! Except if you left her in the kitchen...alone...she would clinb on the counter and eat anything and everything....she even figured out how to open cabinets....crazy yes! I loved her but we just couldn't handle her, so I gave her to a lady who runned a greyhound rescue home. So I know she is much happier now...I hope to still get another greyhound one day...she had the best personality...

It sucks when you love em so much but they tear and reck everything!
