If something is going to happen or a bad reaction will happen...it's going to happen to us. Wilson's Law.

I took Madelyn to get her shots for kindergarten on Wednesday. All day Thursday she was just meh. Said she felt nauseous, her arm hurt (which I'm sure it did)...I sorta blew it off. She's never been one to react well to immunizations.

So...today....
this is her arm where she had her MMR/DTAP shot

apparently if kids are allergic to penicillin this is a pretty typical reaction (?). Guess I'm just glad we didn't have plans for the weekend...and had plenty of benadryl on hand LOL
 
Ugh. Hopefully it settles in a day or two. It's not uncommon to get localised reactions like that after vaccinations, but you do want to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get any worse.

P.S. Wilson's Law made me giggle.
 
Yikes! My friend's ds is allergic but I don't remember what the reaction was that told them so. Is it better now?
 
I've given her some benadryl and some ibruprofen and it has calmed down some. They told me if it gets worse to bring her in, but so far, so good. I called the pediatricians in a panic bc I didn't know what the heck was going on! Emma had never had a reaction like that before.
 
Yikes! Glad it's getting a little better. I'm pretty sure DH would have an anxiety attack if our kids had reactions like that. Bless you, Laura.
 
I ended up with a reaction like that last year to my flu shot and I have been getting annual shots for the past 20+ years...hurt like hell.....poor girl....unfortunatley I know this happens with shots.....I hope she fels better soon....I think she deserves some ice cream :)
 
Poor thing!

Mattie broke out the one and only time she got a flu shot. She had hives for 10 days. Worst 10 days ever. Never again.
 
They gave me a DTAP booster as I was leaving the hospital after having DS and it turned into a rock hard lump on my arm. It hurt so bad and I had a fever. And possibly related, my legs also swelled up, so I went to urgent care and found out my reaction was normal. The swollen legs (that I had been admiring their slenderness in the hospital when my Pre-eclampsia went away) were way worse than when I was pregnant, but they were gone when I got to urgent care. They were probably due to the fact that the pain in my bottom region had nothing to do with lady parts, just a BROKEN TAILBONE that I had to diagnose myself.

So yeah, that DTAP hurt amid all of the post-partum junk I was going through. I'd hate to have to watch my kid go through it! I think it went away within 5-7 days.
 
thanks everyone! :wub: She's seriously tougher than boiled owl. she never complains about anything so, when she does, I know it's bothering her. She just told me as I was putting her to bed that she hopes her arms feel better tomorrow. totally tugs at my heart strings. <3

I had a nasty reaction to a TB shot. Then when I got my anthrax shots, I had to get approval before each one in the series from a doctor because they are related somehow oddly enough. Poor kiddo, hope she feels better soon.

And....from the chick that hates birds?!
