Ear Buds or Headphones for kids?

I found Keira and Cooper both ipod shuffles for $20 each, still in the package for Christmas, but I'm trying to decide on earbuds or headphones. What do your kids have?

My kids have both earbuds, and the ones that hang over the earlobe, for watching DVDs in the car. They're not awfully keen on either of them as after a while they get sore ears. I've been thinking of getting them headphones. If your kids are young, I'd go with the headphones. The buds are hard for them to put in themselves.

Ours have kid sized headphones. They were $20 at Target. They love them.

Even at 13 Cheyanne prefers headphones over ear buds of any kind. Of course, she'd really like to have Beats headphones but those are $200 a set, so that's not happening!

The ear buds don't fit in Cole's ears right, he's four. He loves the headphones though!

Mine are 6& 8 and prefer ear buds. My 6 yr old wears the ones that sit in the larger part, not inserted into the canal, if that makes sense.

We are a headphone family here too. Landon wasn't a fan of the buds. Said they hurt his ears.

My 7 and 9 year old have both and prefer wearing headphones.

L.J. prefers the headphones too...ear buds were more of a pain trying to get them in his ears and making them feel comfortable.

My 4 year old uses kids' headphones. My 9 year old uses ear buds if he has to but would rather listen through speakers. I hadn't thought about it, but maybe I should have him try headphones again and see if he likes them any better.

I don't have any kids so can't weigh in on that. However, I was reading the article here - http://kidshealth.org/teen/safety/safebasics/earbuds.html# about how earbuds can effect hearing. One of the recommendations at the end is to use headphones as opposed to earbuds since they're somewhat less risky. I don't know if that helps with your decision.

Mine are 5 and 6 and both use headphones. The 6 yr old uses buds at times, but they keep falling out of her ears, so she prefers the headphones. The 5 year old won't even let me try the buds in his ears, lol. He's not even a fan of headphones, but uses them when he has to!

We got Coloud headphones for the girls (2 & 4). They have fun Hello Kitty patterns on them, they are comfy, and the sound is nice for the pricepoint. We are all very happy with them. (They have non-Hello Kitty ones too.)

Mine hate earbuds. I got Abby an ipod touch for her birthday and I'm going to get her headphones.
