4th of July plans

Tell me about what your 4th of July is going to look like? Or tell me about your childhood July 4th? or your favorite Independence Day memory. 🇺🇸

This is from AccuWeather:
"Times of clouds and sun with a heavy thunderstorm; hot and humid; thunderstorms can bring flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts." It's going to be around 90 degrees. I might have to rethink all the outdoor things that I wanted to do. :(

Our church does a fantastic celebration around the 4th of July each year. This year it will be on July 3rd. We will have a BBQ dinner and then a fabulous fireworks display. It is really so much fun and a great time to catch up with friends and enjoy the food and fireworks!

My oldest son is on vacation in North Carolina with his girlfriend and her family until July 5th. My youngest son is working all day. My daughter is working until around 2 and then going to a picnic with her boyfriend. My husband is the guy who does the fields for our local little league, so he will be there all day. That leaves me home alone...probably do some gardening and scrapbooking! A nice quiet day! Until all the fireworks start that is. I can sit on the hill behind our house and see about 5 different fireworks displays.

We used to go watch the fireworks downtown with Jay's family, because his sister LOVED 4th of July, and she made all of us enjoy it, too. The last time I went, I got a migraine. Since I take narcotic pain medication, I often don't process the warnings. By the time I realized it was happening, it was too late. I got very, very sick, and it took us forever to get home because of the traffic. It was the most terrible migraine I ever had. When I got home and was able to shower and take some medication and could kind of see straight, I swore I would never go watch fireworks again. @Studio Liv can confirm that it was awful. We do have a joke or two about it. We ended up getting off the interstate at one point so I could go to the restroom, and we ended up at a Whataburger. The next year, that same Whataburger was demolished and completely rebuilt. My hubby often jokes that I totally destroyed the building. It wasn't funny then, but it is a little bit now. 🤪

My Mama loved 4th of July as well, but she just loved making a spread of food and decorating. She wasn't big on fireworks either, but to her, family was the most important thing and she loved having us all together. I absolutely miss her fried chicken (I tried to fry it but mine never tasted like hers). We almost always ate with Mama earlier in the day, and then met Jay's family in the evening.

We will have a relaxed 4th of July this year. I think Jay might pick up some sparklers or smaller fireworks, but we might forego that entirely. We are in the path of a major heat dome. I know we will make some food and maybe try to watch the fireworks on PBS. I know, living it up, right? Olivia is going to be with friends, and right now, Daniel will be with me and Jay.

Sounds perfect!

Oh wow!! More time to scrapbook?!

Enjoy your quiet day and the fireworks- all 5 of them! So cool!

Sound awful! I hope this year is better.

I never do anything special on the 4th. The Catholic Church in town has their annual festival (fund raiser for the church) on the 3rd and 4th ending with fireworks on the 4th. It is held at the county fairgrounds which happen to be about 1 mile or so direct south of me. For many years I could sit in my driveway to watch the fireworks but as the trees have grown in the yards of houses between me and the fairgrounds, I don't have as direct of a view. But I just walk down the street to the east a little ways (basically my neighbor's driveway) and watch from there. We don't have streetlights so that isn't an issue with taking photos. When my parents built this house, we could watch the fireworks from inside the house through the large picture window that faces south! 60 years makes a big difference! Now I don't see any of the low to the ground fireworks because of the trees that line the river that is between my house and the fairgrounds but all of them that go above the trees are easily seen.

For the last 5 to 10 years, I have also been able to see other fireworks off in the distance. One year it was to the north, to the west and to the southeast before the main show directly south of me. The north and the west are probably someone who lives in the country outside of town limits but I've never been able to figure out the ones from the southeast. Whoever that is shoots off fireworks on New Year's Eve as well!

Like @LynnZant there is a chance of rain along with the hot temperatures on the 4th for me. If the forecast is right, it will be raining during the fireworks time period but as we all know, forecasts can change. Hoping it does!

I'm excited that my brother is coming up to our house again this year. He's the foodie in the family so I got a few different varieties of chicken sausage for him. (I believe the hatch chili + cheddar and Jamaican jerk are on the menu. But mom and I also found him Korean BBQ and chicken andouille so he may switch things up.) Despite being literally allergic to the sun, he usually helps my husband grill. (He's the food runner and sometimes the umbrella holder.) We bought a small bundle of fireworks at Target that just fills the small laundry basket I use to keep them in every year. Kiddo is excited. We sit in camping chairs on the lawn while my husband sets off fireworks in the street; our whole neighborhood is tiny dead end streets connected to a main street so there's little to no traffic. We can usually see the bottle rockets that a neighbor a few streets over buys and I always try to get photos of fireworks with lightning. It's usually a pretty low-key day and exactly what we need.

This all sounds so fun! I miss watching actual fireworks on the 4th of July! It seems everyone around here does them before or after, but not on the actual day!

We may also have rain (not sure if it's all day, but I know for a good portion of the day). Family usually has a big party at the family farm- but not going to that this year. Friends of ours alternate between a party on Memorial Day or 4th of July- they did Memorial Day this year. We went to an airshow with my husband's cousin and his family the past few years- but he passed away last year. My husband's neice just bought a house and he may help her move in. In other words, we have no real plans at all!

Just like I would love to go away at Christmas time, stay in a cabin on a snowy mountain someday. I think it would be fun to go somewhere that actually does big celebrations for the 4th of July someday! I can dream!

This is our first 4th of July holiday weekend that we are not out of town at a softball tournament in the last 5 years. It's so strange! We will continue our before-softball tradition of spending it out at the lake cabin with my in-laws & likely some friends & family. Nothing too crazy planned, besides meals and boating to the next bay over to watch their fireworks from the water on Friday night. I'm not a huge fan of doing fireworks- I prefer to watch other people blow up their money- so on the actual 4th, we'll set up down at the waterfront & enjoy the show from everyone else's docks!

Tomorrow I'm on a plane headed down to Virginia. I'll be in Colonial Williamsburg for the 4th. My sister and I planned and made reservations for this 2 years ago...so it's been a long time planning. PBS is going to be broadcasting the entertainment, drone show, and fireworks from there.

A member of our Mom crew moved up north last year but came back down south to visit this week, so we had a day at the pool with six Moms, eleven kids, and two husbands; pizza, watermelon, and Nothing Bundt Cakes 🤤

Sometimes we go to the town fireworks, but husband is working this year and it’s kind of a lot to do by myself. So we don’t really have any other plans for the 4th. We’ll probably do some sparklers and sometimes the neighbors do a little fireworks show in the cul-de-sac.

I'm in Canada... so my plans aren't what you're asking about, lol
But I'm excited because I'm going to my friend's house so she can teach me quilting for me to make a souvenir t-shirt quilt for my son :D (and both my countries, Canada and France, are playing World Cup games back to back).
