True Crime Podcasts

I'm a huge true crime junkie and 95% of the time that's what I'm watching when I'm scrapping. I really like listening to true crime podcasts while I'm driving (or during the night when I can't sleep - :w00t: - lololol)!

I recently discovered Sword and Scale and I think it's my new fave. I also really like Murder in America.

If you're a TC fan, please share your favorites!

Oh thanks for sharing! I just was browsing Podcasts and ended on an Oprah one but I love 20/20, Dateline, etc. so will check these out for sure!

It's been a long time since I listened to podcasts. I used to listen to them frequently when I was picking Daniel up in middle school. I would usually arrive an hour before pickup (I know, THAT mom, but honestly there would already be 20 cars ahead of me at that time, and I would listen to a podcast episode while I cross stitched.

I do watch a lot of YouTube, so I've been picking up on Crime Junkies podcasts again and watching/listening while I cross stitch. It's nice to be at home in my recliner than in the car.

I'm interested to see what others have been listening to recently.

When I worked for my daughter, Kyla’s Etsy shop, we listened to True Crime Junkie all the time. We loved it and would listen for hours each day. However, I haven’t listened to many podcasts since then. It sounds like I need to start again! :)

Ok! I'm back... I'm not into single episode commentary / chatter type true crime podcasts, I really like deep dives where the podcast focuses on a single crime / case / story / situation. Here are some of the most interesting that I've listened to...

Your Own Backyard - Deep dive into the Kristin Smart disappearance. One of the best ever.

In The Dark S2 - Wrongful conviction, fascinating investigation by the podcasters that changed the outcome of the case.

Cold - Susan Powell case - INSANE story and details of the case.

Serial - Adnan Syed case - the podcast the started it all IMO.

Bear Brook - serial murder case that's done really well.

Missing and Murdered - Finding Cleo - the search for a missing indigenous girl that's fascinating, told with sensitivity and depth and pretty heartbreaking.

S-Town - not really crime per say but a fascinating look into one man's crazy life / mind / etc.

Sympathy Pains - case about a woman who fakes sooo many things about her life. Wild. Scamanda is similar.

Root of Evil - Black Dahlia tie in / bizarre Hodel family story.

Hunting Warhead - Child sex abuse case / hunt. Really well done, but heartbreaking and not for the faint of heart. I hesitate to "recommend" it because it's a hard listen, but it's really eye opening.

There are more I'm sure, but these are among the best of the best IMO.

I added these all to my Spotify Library.

I tried to listen to one at the gym and just couldn't do it! Something about the sound effects of ax in the head...LOL

Robin -- did you make this spreadsheet? It is incredible -- TY I feel like I will always have something to listen to!

I did not haha :D OMG... that would be a lifetime of listening.

It's from the true crime podcast community on Reddit. They compiled all these and track the ratings. It's a great resource for finding podcasts that have good ratings + number of votes. Obviously, a podcast can be a 9.0 but only have one vote, so that's not the same as one that is a 7 or 8 but has 60 votes.

I like that they give a synopsis and also have a solved / unsolved notation too because it can be frustrating to listen to a case and then find out there's no resolution.

The tabs at the bottom are also helpful because if you like the episodic podcasts (Casefile / Dateline / My Favorite Murder / etc) more than the deep dives, those are there too!

I’ve listened to so many, but here’s a couple that stand out:

Buried Bones dissects some of history’s most dramatic true crime cases from centuries ago. Together, journalist Kate Winkler Dawson and retired investigator Paul Holes explore these very old cases through a 21st century lens.

Kill List Every day, hundreds of people go about their lives with no idea that someone has paid to have them killed. In the depths of the dark net, tech journalist Carl Miller makes a disturbing discovery: a secret “kill list” targeting hundreds of innocent people on a murder-for-hire website. When the police are slow to investigate, Carl is thrown into a race against time to warn those in danger and uncover the truth before it’s too late. From Wondery and Novel comes a shocking true story about obsession, control and the price of life and death.

Flesh & Code (true crime adjacent), My Favorite Murder, Scamanda, The Retrievals, Appalachia Mysteria, Small Town Dicks, 20/20, Liberty Lost

Thanks for the fantastic list Robin!! I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can check off what everyone else is listening to as well!!

Serial - Adnan Syed case - the podcast the started it all IMO.

Root of Evil - Black Dahlia tie in / bizarre Hodel family story.

I love both of these and need to re-listen. It's been long enough I've likely forgotten details. And they were both fascinating. I think there's a secondary podcast for Serial as well, but I can't remember the name.

I only listen to Smartless, but am a huge True Crime fan so thanks for all the tips. Now to decide where to start!

wow, so many!! I don't know most of them, I'm going to add these on my podcast list!

I love Park Predator, dark down East, Crime Junkie, especially Crime Junkie because I love Ashley's and Brit's voices when they narrate. And also Murder, Mystery and Makeup Monday by Bailey Sarian

Highly highly highly recommend this spreadsheet (sort by the ratings column)...
