Teens today will never know....

The struggle was real - taking a whole roll of photos, dropping it off and waiting to get the pictures developed. Just to find out half are blurry.

Haha!

Or ... Waking up early to watch the news to see if school was closed from a winter storm.

Omg, yes to all of those! lol blast from the past!

Teenagers today will never know...

the anxiety of calling your friend on the phone & having to talk to their older brother! Or answering the phone NOT knowing who was calling!

Teenagers today will never know...

the horror of hitting a bump in the road and your cd skipping.
having to pay for each and every text.
having to wait until after 9 to call your friends.
getting knocked off the internet because someone picked up the phone.

Teenagers today will never know...

the struggle of waiting for dial-up to connect—with that screeching modem sound echoing through the house—and praying no one picked up the phone to ruin it.

getting knocked off the internet because someone picked up the phone
Yes!

Another one :D

Teens today will never know...

printing out MapQuest directions before leaving the house

How thankful I am for GPS for directions now!

Ok...one more...:p

Teens today will never know...

the joy of getting picked to wheel the TV cart into class... because it meant you were watching a movie.

Today's teens will never know ...

the good times at the roller rink, doing all the arm motions for YMCA and the anxiety of hoping your crush would ask you to skate with him for the slow skate =)

Today's teens will never know ...

Recording your favourite songs onto a tape cassette.
Winding the cassette tape back up with a pencil because the stereo player 'munched it'.

These are great! Thanks for starting the thread KCB!!

Teens will never know .... being able to stay out until dark without checking in with your parents

... having tornado drills in school that consisted of sitting in the hallway with a book over their head for "protection"!

Teens today will never know . . .

about calling the movie theater from your home to find out what movies were playing and at what time, and then getting to the theater to find out that the movie you wanted to see was SOLD OUT. What?????

Teens today will never know . . .

Going for a run with your portable CD player, and trying to run smoothly enough that the disc doesn't 'jump'. Haha!

Going to Blockbuster to rent a movie, lol!

Or renting what is supposed to be a kid's movie and finding a decidedly not for kids movie in the case.

Not sure whether that's a good thing or not though.

Teens will never know...

... waiting all night long for the post office to open to buy your concert tickets. (Not that I've done that...).
... finding your way with a map or street book on your knees.
... going on vacation with all the car windows open to get some breeze/fresh air, while everything gets boiling hot. (I still prefer a open window in my car above the airco, though).

Today's teens will never know ...

*riding in a car with "455 air conditioning" (ALL the windows down, driving at 55mph)

*having to talk to your friends on a phone ATTACHED to the wall with a 4' cord

*having pen pals

*bomb drills in school (cold war 1960s)

*sitting on the floor with friends playing 45s on your record player, which is also on the floor

Today's teens will never know ...
Tangled up phone cord
using a rotary phone
calling collect to get a ride home

teens today will never know the satisfaction of slamming the phone when you were angry at the caller.

teens today will never know the joy of knowing you were at the right house by all the bikes in the front yard.

teens today will never know full-service gas stations (gas was the same price as self serve).

scrolling on tv to see if your school was closed for bad weather
I had a beeper...why...you still needed to find a pay phone
the overhead projector in the classroom with the markers teacher would write on
typing class

What’s it’s like to NOT KNOW what all of your friends/family are doing at every given moment.

Waiting for an hour to hear your favorite new song on the radio - and trying to get the timing JUST right to record it on a mix tape.

Having to wave down a stranger because your car ran out of gas in a pre-cell phone world.

The pain of late fees at Blockbuster!!

Waiting until a commercial so you could rush out of the room to pee, get a drink, fix a snack, and do whatever chores your parents asked you to do before the show started up again.

What it’s like to not have A SINGLE photo of any meal you ever ate as a kid.

-looking up books at the library using the card catalog
-calling "time" to set your clock to the right time
-calling "weather" to see what the weather would be that day
-having to look up a word to know how to spell it, or looking up anything without google
-writing papers by hand
-having to take the little dotted things off the side of printer paper
-how to read cursive
-how to tell time on a real clock
-having to memorize phone numbers
-needing a quarter to make a phone call

Or, having the DJ talk thru the first 20 seconds of the song!

Having an intermission at the movies, and being able to pop out to the toilet or to get another snack without missing anything!

Kids today will never know...

... the agony of having to call your parents on a pay phone to ask them to pick you up from somewhere.

... to have been able to do idiotic things that are not forever immortalized on the internet.

Hahaha or the poor man’s hack of calling collect and instead of your name saying where you are: You have a collect call from: “outside Orange Julius!!”

Teenagers today will never know what it was like to have to pay for long distance telephone calls! It was expensive being in college and having your BFFs and boyfriend be at different colleges in different cities!

They'll never know what it was like to not have FaceTime.

I have never been to a movie with an intermission, but my small bladder would appreciate it for sure. For now, I just try to find a slower time in the movie and literally run. lol

Teens today will never know having to wait an entire week for the next episode of your favorite show and if you miss it, who knows when you will have the chance to see it.

Teens today will never know...

... all road trips planned with a paper map and or atlas book and a highlighter to plan your route.

.... being kicked out of the house all day long, each day, during summer break, to play with friends n neighbors and only allowed in the house to pee or each lunch and dinner, cause you were out till the street lights came on.

... writing research papers using only Encyclopedias.
